I have used Norton 2005 for the last few years and been pleased with it. It is time for renewal now and I am wondering about the free antivirus available.
Does anyone know which one is the best? If so, please let me know. I just hate to pay for something if I can get it for free. I keep hearing that there is no need to pay but I can't find which free one is rated the best.

I used to use AVG but I'm not sure if they offer a free service anymore, but I've also used Avast and that's pretty good, and also free. Here's the link to that one so you can check it out: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
I personally don't like Norton, but that's just me. I have McAfee running at the moment, and I'm happy with that.

I looked at AVG but it only offers 30 email protection. I downloaded Avast for the time being. I may try McAfee because my ISP offers it for free, I think.
Thanks for the info. ![]() Quote:

Becky,
I have been using Norton AntiVirus and Norton System Works for many years and am really happy with them. You can subscrube for a nominal fee to getting free updates as often as you want. -Vic |

Hi Victor,
I have been using Norton for about 5 years and I am happy with them too. I feel very comfortable with it and know exactly what everything means. I was just wondering about all the free antivirus offers out there. I may give in and renew it since I am too darn old to try to figure out all this new stuff. Avast has these spinning balls in the tray and settings that I have no idea what the heck they mean. Norton is plain and simple. LOL Thanks for your input on this. ![]()

I have been a Symantec (Norton) user for many years. I'm comfortable with it. I recently purchased Norton Internet Security 2008. I'm very satisfied with it. Along with anti-virus, it has a fire-wall and spy-ware protection. Some of the options took a bit of getting used to, but it's fairly intuitive. And it came with a year's worth of updates included.

At the advice of the folks who recovered my hard drives, I also have free AVG -- so far so good and I haven't felt the need to upgrade to the paid version.
I also installed CCleaner at their recommendation -- haven't used it for a while so thanks for the reminder! Re: anti-virus, I do NOT recommend Panda. That was the last one I purchased. I found it difficult to navigate and their tech support was not great. |
