there are a few ways to clean out your hard drive
click START go to Programs, then to Accessories, then System Tools, then Disk Clean up follow the prompts and read the descriptions of the sections to be cleaned then click the More Options tab to see if there are any programs you don't use anymore or can live without I don't clean out or mess with the Restore point - it's a safety net ![]() You can also go to Control Panel and use the Add/or Remove but it only removes programs doesn't do the Clean up. After the cleaning is done then do a Disk Defragmenter you can also download something like a system optimizer that will help you with the cleaning there are free and trial programs here's a nice place to find programs - be sure to read about them and read the reviews - and understand as much of it as you can before running programs like these. http://www.download.com/3120-2001_4-...ing&tag=dir.pl

Hi deluscious, there is one more thing you might want to try.
Press the start button at the bottom of the screen and find the word run. Click on that and type msconfig into the box. This will bring up a menu that most things in it you dont want to mess with, but there is one you can. Select the tab that says startup. It should be the last tab to the right on the menu. You will see a list of programs that start when windows starts. These programs run in the background using up your memory. Almost every time you load a program in your computer these programs put in a file here to start up with windows. Very annoying to me LOL. What you want to do is uncheck everything except the system stuff, and your antivirus. You should be able to figure out what most of them are from the discription given in the list. If your not sure of any just leave them. Here is a link with more info than I can put here. This should help you figure out which ones to leave, and which ones to uncheck. http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_xp.html I hope this helps ![]()

Glad you mentioned that Allen, I was focusing in the hard drive and didn't think about the services part of it.
Here's a site I found that was simple and had good explanations about what services to have running and the settings for them - has a nice list - http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
