it's a "general use" laptop.

depending on your needs. Let's say if all a person do is turn on the puter, get on line, surf the net, watch youtube, post at forums, and drink tea...I just described moi...LMAO.......

that computer is fine. Acer was a cutting edge puter for a few years but their fire had kinda died down.

They are now making a lot of puters geared toward the price consious customers.

Cause of my work, I need workhorse puter (I do some other stuff besides surfing the net, watching youtube, and post and forums. LOLOL)

now, if you are thinking about playing with photos and video editing, you'll either have to soup up this puter or get a workhorse.

there is also a cheaper one at Buy.com

check out the price on this one (same puter)

PS, if they offer you another gig of ram at a good price, go ahead and get it, IMHO

When I was looking at laptops & testing them in the stores - I noticed some had the kind of sharp/squared off edge where you wrist would rest - I didn't find those very comfortable.

If you can find the ones than have the curved edge so you don't get that pressure spot you might be happier if you plan to use it a lot.

We ended up getting a refurbished one that does have the squared off edge tho- but I don't use it much daughter does...
I can't use it for very long because of the edge/pressure point.

I don't recommend getting a refurbished laptop either - we've had to re install xp pro many times so we don't save anything important on it.

I love those USB flash drives/sticks for saving stuff- easy and handy.

as far as buying online - make sure of the return policy and stick with a top rated brand name

If you can get to a store to feel the keys of the various laptops then you can be sure to pick one you like - some have a different "touch" or spacing - that is important to me anyway

and check the CD/DVD drive {open/close it}to see if it is flimsy and the screen/hinges etc

you can google laptop reviews for more details and to find ratings

Hi Meolody!

I, like you, have been trying to decide on a laptop.

I am so far behind in my timeline for buying, as I still have not decided what I truly want. I am "getting there," however!

I have been learning so much at: www.pcworld.com

You can do all kinds of searches and comparisons! You can learn so much about various components! There is so much information there... it is incredible!

Hope this helps?

I want to be sure you remain the neighborhood "wiz" on teaching all about computers!

The neighborhood whiz, yeah that's me.

I'm also, one of the youngsters on my block. People are 97 over here.

And no, they don't know what a computer is.

BUT THEY HAVE CABLE, and they still take the bus.

lol
