The bottom right side is the task bar.
You can double click the icons usually to open them, or right click to see a list of choices or options and go from there. The programs should also show in your start/programs menu. If something is showing on the task bar it is usually running already.. do you mean to run a scan do you have to close one of them?? I don't think so. I don't close any of mine. Isn't your verizon av set to do automatic scans like wkly or every other week? most of the programs like that can be set to do scheduled scans, same with the anti spyware ones....
