One I was warned about and unfortunately I did click on is what LOOKS like a valid ActiveX download. It is a pale, yellow bar, looks official enough but it really screws up your computer. I had to do a total destructive Recovery because of it. I'd do a screenshot to show you but it's not there right now. I will comeback when it comes back so you can see what I'm talking about. You hear a little "Blip" when it first comes on. Just don't EVER click on it. If you want ActiveX go to the official download site and get it or if you ever try to download some JAVA site it will give you the proper and official link right there to download it.
The bogus one you do NOT want to click on is a pale yellow and goes across the top of whatever page you are on. It isn't a BOX type pop-up. I think they do this format to trick people into thinking it's ligitmate but it's NOT. It's just another Pop-Up. Here is what it says: This site might require the following ActiveX control: 'Adobe Flash Player Installer' from Adobe Systems Incorporated'. Click here to install...

what websites are you on when it pops up?
any specific ones? Do you both have most pop ups blocked and maybe phishing filters or website filters set up? *if you block pop ups from NT then the PM notices won't pop up for you. ![]() you can set pop up blocker to accept pop ups from specific websites that are safe.

My PUBs are always ON. Only site I allow is Yahoo games.
No, this is a trick. It actually was there at my Netzero homepage last time so you never know where it's going to show up. Just IGNORE it. You never know who paid who to allow it on their page. Everyone is out to make a buck at your expense. All these tricks have a lot of back history and lead to SOMETHING you have to buy or THINK you have to buy to fix all the problems they cause. It's like they are setting you up with a problem to lead you to something else you MIGHT buy. But there are different ways to fix things you just have to figure them out. 3 times I have HAD to do destructive recovery because there was no other way. I find some actual Pop-Ups look different. Don't be fooled, they are ALL just pop-ups. If anything pops upon MY screen I immediately X it out. But sometimes even just clicking on that X in the upper RIGHT corner, you're screwed. It's best just to ignore them ALL. THEY ARE ALL LIES!!!!! ![]() |

Wow, I bet that was what caused my computer to crash a week ago. I lost everything. That is dangerous because many "good" sites have that pop up and it's legit. Now we don't know what's legit and not. That sucks. Thanks for the info!
I don't recall where I was either but it was a legit site. I never download from sites I don't trust.

I also had several problems with my computer being really slow. Turned out there was some dangerous Trojan stalling it and reading my data I tried search-and-destroy which removed the Trojan. Now there are no more problems |

If the image doesn't show up on your screen just click on the url under it. Like I said, imageshack has been kind of iffy lately:
Maybe it's the png extension. I don't know why they do that all of a sudden. ![]() ![]() |

a bad scareware is Antivirus 2009 (microsoft). They take over and it is actually redirecting you to[removed site]and they want almost 50 bucks to fix the issue that they caused! Shuts down reliable access to your web browser , thus you can't get the patch. I had to revert and losses were painful. Lesson learned.
Be careful as it is not from the authentic MS Antivrus, but is merely masquerading as it.
