found this.

http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...k&ct=clnk&cd=6

When using System Restore, I receive the following message: 'System restore was unable to start due to a missing Framedyn.dll. Please reinstall the application to fix this problem'. How do I fix this?
A.

This event usually occurs when the Windows path is corrupt. To resolve this issue, begin by installing Windows XP Service Pack 1. Alternatively, you can temporarily address this issue by copying the framedyn.dll file from the \windows\system32\wbem directory to the \windows\system32 directory. If you cannot locate the .dll file in the …\Wbem folder, see Why can't I see system files such as .dll or .inf in Windows?

Q. Why can't I see system files such as .dll or .inf in Windows?
A. Windows hides all system files and files marked hidden by default. To view these files:

1.
Click Start, then My Computer

2.
From the toolbar open the Tools menu, select Folder Options, then click the View tab

3.
In the Advanced settings option for Hidden files and folders, ensure the Show hidden files and folders option is selected and Hide protected operating system files is unchecked. Click OK

4.
You should now be able to see hidden and system files

I have absolutely no idea why it says to install W XP Service pack 1!

Just a thought... are all your installations uptodate, like done automatically?

when did it start acting up? can you restore before that time?
maybe to before that frame file went missing??

also maybe check into -
control panel/folder options/view/show all hidden files and folders

to make sure you can see all that is there

when done hide them again

do you have a profile set up for your kids and others so they only can have limited access? less chance of them messing things up. you would be the admin/profile {full access}
control panel/users

[OK...The disk I have is from 2001 and it wont do anything its saying the windows on the puter are more updated than the CD.]

mine said the same thing when i did it this summer- but i asked if I wanted to proceed anyway {or something like that} and I clicked yes.

My copy is about that old too.
Yours wouldn't do anything ?or ask if you wanted to do it anyway??
you can always get the all the updates again after the reinstall is done.
it's how I did it.

Ok- can you try to do a reinstall ?- not a format and see if you can redo it that way as a fix or repair or a full reinstall?

format erases the hard drive

reinstall just overlays all the files again {more or less- simple explanation of it}
