Thumbs Down Antivirus 2009 = fake - don't click anywhere on it!!

I just had it pop up on my screen.
It is a virus

The only way i could close it was by pressing CTRL/ALT/DELETE
{opens Windows task manager}
and closing my browser by highlighting it { I was using Firefox} then pressing the End Process button.

I opened Firefox and it asked if I wanted to restore session or start a new one - I selected new one - so the AV 2009 would not pop back up again.

info- Antivirus 2009 removal - if you accidentally click on it and it installs...

We have another thread about it - http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread54589.html

Question you know...

about a month ago I clicked on two medical type links... a few days apart, and then this ticker started downloading some
"program"...which I did not authorize!

I could not get out of it...no clicking worked anywhere. So I control/alt/deleted it. When I resumed Firefox after rebooting,
it started AGAIN....so I closed down totally.

This happened twice. Good thing I was fast on the draw. I ran all our "ware" and nothing was found. So do you think I am safe?

I don't remember what the program was...some sort of spyware thingey... it was really stealth if you ask me!
It had nothing to do with the Google link I clicked on!

Most likely you go it shut down in time and broke the download connection.

If you can run your AV/Anti spyware scanner with deep settings a extra time or 2 might be good.

These top rated AV sites have stand alone scanners and removers if needed. Lots of other virus/ safety info too.

McAfee - http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/default.aspx
Kaspersky Lab - http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/f...us-scanner.php

Bit Defender - http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Down...eeRemovalTool/
Trend Micro - http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products...ces/index.html

[Q: How do I know if my computer is infected wtih a virus?

A: The only way to be certain if your system is infected is to run a virus scan using antivirus software. Some indicators that your computer may have been infected with a virus include:

• runs consistently slower than usual

• frequently stops responding

• crashes and restarts

• applications no longer work properly

• inaccessible disks or disk drives

• you see distorted windows and dialog boxes

• files being deleted for no known reason

• strange error messages

• strange behavior with your email program

Q: How do computer viruses spread?

A: The most common way for computer viruses to spread to other computers is through email. Other methods include file sharing programs, from a website - execution of malicious javascript or vbscript, transferring files from an infected computer to another computer (with a floppy disk, CD-ROM, etc.). Some viruses can even spread through a network connection.]

the stupid thing just popped up on me again!

I was looking on a shopping site and allowed scripts on the page to see the next page results and all of a sudden the Antivirus 2009 warning popped up.

Darn thing!
anyway I did the ctrl/alt/del and closed the browser process in the Task Manager like last time.
That seems to be the best way to close it down, you don't click on the pop up anywhere that way.

Is this a pop only notification Jo?

I rarely ever get a pop up anything, so am I at risk of this virus through other means?

I never got any before either, 2 times now..

yes it will all of a sudden pop up.
For me it minimizes the browser window and a warning notice pops on the screen. Something to the effect of " You may have a virus, get this Anti Virus 2009 and it will clean your system "
{I didn't read the whole thing cause I wanted to get it shut down right away}

since it was mentioned here before I knew to not click on it anywhere at all or it would activate it.

Thank you!

I've been caught in the past with trying to shut things down quickly by clicking on the X .... only to find that whatever was there was started downloading into my computer because by clicking that X.... that started the program.

I do thank you for this information. Fore-warned is fore armed.
