Looks like you don't need to connect it to your computer like the Magic jack.

I tried it at my friend's house. It is very cool. The base unit is pricey though...

I think the price will come down if more folks catch on to it.

However, I have one BIG concern...

VoIP's will come and go, and if this thing never catches on, that'll be close to $300.00 that one has shelled out for something that may not last...

for me, I'd wait at least another year to see how the company is doing and if they hold up...

more than likely, Vonage will come up with a counter and Vonage has more $$$$ in their pockets....

just MHO....

feature wise, it is a dream....very cool stuff...

the other small concern is that VoIP's are only as good as the cable/DSL connection..so if those go out, so do these....

Yeah, good idea, I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

They suggest - If a person has a cell phone that could be used as a backup if the DSL/cable go out. For calling anyway.

yeah, that's what I'd do also, jo...although I was very tempted to trade in our vonage for this thing...

but I have to think from a money making perspective.

If they make that quick 300.00 (with sale it's cheaper but there are other fees like activations and such) and don't charge forever..

how would this company sustain itself to keep the product and services run long term?

they do have other fees in the fine prints and I am not sure how many subscribers would do that...

for this product to last long, it'll have to charge something...otherwise, we'd all be wasting our 300 smackaroos and to have this company go defunct in a year or two...

I'll have to look up their backers to see if they have anybody with deep pockets backing them up...LOL

Hmm I see your point.. maybe they plan to suck people in with the big upfront cost and no fees at first - and then they will start adding usage fees after they have a good base of users...
