That's it. It was WinFixer. Trouble maker for sure!! Removed things I wanted too. I now use Firefox browser because some of the Security updates for Explorer prevented me from downloading or using anything with Flash or Active X. I need those so changed. I couldn't even see the cute e-cards I used to be able to see. I was considering buying a new computer. Problem was just the browser. No problems with that now. My school recommended it for their distance classes too. I get no pop ups at all since I started using the trial, free version of Ad-Subtract. Tattoo

sounds like the pop ups might be caused by adware/malware that is installed on your system. You could try running a program called EWIDO.. I have found it to get rid of most of the garbage some other programs leave behind.

Before I download anything. I really need to know the answer to this,
because there are some popups that are legitimate. For example,
my own site and the original BT had smileys that were on a popup
screen. If I turn my popup blocker up (and I'm not even sure where
it is), will it block all popups, or just the ones I don't need?

I haven't used the MS IE browser enough to know for sure about how the settings options are on it - is that what you are using ? I can go check it out if so.

but if you are using either of the ones I mentioned earlier -Firefox or Netscape -

they have in the options or preferences area
where you can adjust the pop up settings -
so it will ask you -
when you go to a page that has pop ups-
a notice will pop up at the top and ask if you want to allow pop ups for that site - with an options button if you do.

I have tried all of the free anti spyware programs and ended up with more problems then before so I looked on the windows web site and now use windows defender with no spyware ever which keeps the pop ups away as well, and it is free as long as you are running a legal copy of windows which they validate. I clicked on a member here's link and was instantly bombarded with pop ups which this program cleaned up.

We were having trouble in the past week with all that kind of stuff. Fortunately, never clicked on the fake stuff. What finally worked was to update our Norton, and our Ad-Aware SE was helping and what really took care of the final flashing up stuff from the fake one was to now use mozilla instead of IE. Apparently stuff was sticking along with IE and so our problem now seems to be eliminated. Thank goodness. Never had this happen before but there are tons of viruses out there for sure.
