Exclamation Conficker (Downadup) - New Developments

i signed up for some of the anitvirus sites email newsletters and security updates..
I got this one today.

[ A recent development regarding the Conficker virus has been detected, where it is now directing infected machines to download new, harmful files, thus activating the botnet. Here’s how this new behavior works:

Conficker sends out email spam without the PC owner’s knowledge.
In addition, Conficker uses pop-ups to warn of PC infection and offers fake antivirus software, called 'SpywareProtect2009' at a price of $49.95.
If purchased, credit card information is stolen and the virus downloads even more malicious software.

You can protect yourself from Conficker with ZoneAlarm Security Suite.
It includes antivirus, anti-spyware and more in addition to your current firewall protection.

If you encounter a pop-up like this, do not click on the pop-up at all - not even to close the box. To remove the pop-up without infection, open your Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), and end the task from your Browser (Explorer, Firefox, etc.). You should take additional precautions to ensure you are not already infected and have adequate protection:

• Keep your Operating Software up-to-date]

this notice happened to be from Checkpoint/Zone Alarm , I'm sure the other top sites have similar information.

my elderly neighbor got that pop up, and BOUGHT the security suite of tools, and then paid $59.95 for the set up. his whole machine crashed, and was a horrible mess. I brought it home with me, and it took HOURS to fix it. he called the bank, to report the incident, and they removed it from his credit card, and issued him a new card. It was a horrible mess.

If you dont know what program it is DONT CLICK IT!

Yep I know not to click on it if you don't know it. But its on Derrick's
computer. And he doesn't read well enough to know that it was
a virus.

I have tried everything to get rid of it. And I haven't been able to.

Any ideas.

Also any ideas how to stop the computer from just adding it when you
click it to go away. This is one that it says will add when you do that.

I need some help with this one so I can help my son.
