Default Switching from DSL to Cable on Monday

Hi Everybody,

We ordered a cable package that includes phone, internet and cable TV. We currently have Dish Network, Verizon landline phone and DSL.

Is my service likely to get worse?

It will cost half as much as we pay now for the two year contract.

Verizon has been seriously messing up our phone and DSL bill.

The cable phone service is $29.95 and includes nationwide long distance with Canada, PR and USVI. Also, there's call waiting and caller ID for free. Anyone have a good experience doing this?

It's with Mediacom, a smaller cable company compared to Comcast or the other big ones.

I found some reviews sites - I don't know if you can sort them by location and dates - some are older reviews so I would give more weight to the more recent ones.

Thanks. We've had Mediacom before years ago for TV and internet. The worst part is when the billing gets messed up. I spent 8 hours on the phone with Verizon last month and it's still wrong.

Cable can have more outages, but at least the billing is consistent (at least I hope so.)

Wiz, that's what I have and with Mediacom as well.

It all works pretty slick. I really haven't been without the phone that many times, but then I don't worry about it when it does happen since I have a cell. Again, it's only been a few times and those were because of violent storms in the area.

I got in on Mediacom on a good package deal 7 years ago. I just upgraded to an HD converter box and the HD channels are awesome. Hopefully they'll get more HD channels in short order.

Getting through to service in the past was a drag. Had to be on hold for frippin ever. On the plus side, you don't have to wait long now for a service call but on the down side, that is because they have started outsourcing. 1 tech had no clue what she was talking about (I suspected) so I hung up and called right back and got someone who fixed the problem in 2 minutes.

And I will never have Verizon again. I had cell phone service from them a few years back and it was just awful. Constantly was arguing with them over the phone about my bill. It was always screwed up.

So far it's working well Doody. The only issue is that the outgoing phone sound isn't the greatest, but it's because of the type of wireless phones we have in the house. I'm going to try some Panasonic 6.0 Ghz phones. Their tech wiz was out last Wednesday and he said those have excellent quality sound in his experience.

The internet is about five times faster now and the cable is acceptable, considering that we get it on all six TV's for no extra charge. We don't have an HD set yet but DH will likely get one when the price gets lower.

I have comcast phone/cable/internet.

Remember if you need to call 911 it doesnt work the same as the phone company line. You are using a VOIP or voice over internet protocol, which means it doesnt route directly to your local 911 operator, it goes to your cable company main switch board. PLEASE write down the full phone number for your local police/ambulance/fire dept, and tack them up near your phones.

I found the phone is horrible. I get dropped calls, and frequently MD offices will call to verify an appointment, and get another number, or told this one is out of service. I get echos, and bounce back sounds on this phone line. I have changed to new phones, and it didnt help. its cheap, and I am not going to complain too much. I would expect better service for the fancy lines it comes through.

The internet is blazing fast! downloading songs, MP3s or audio books is really fast. Photos, or packages go fast!

The cable Tv is better than sattelitte TV. When we had direct TV way out here in the boonies, on a cloudy day we lost signal, and were happy to switch over to cable. We have a high def box with HDMI set up so we have a crystal clear picture. well done comcast. well done.

Price is the most important peice. If you got a good deal, then celebrate! when your two years is up, you can always switch back to Verizon, and get the new customer price again. Play one company against the other. I told comcast I was going to switch if they didnt meet the other guys new customer prices, and they did!

Enjoy the speed! watch hulu.com or someother youtube type site and you will really see the difference.

We'll pay a total of $82.45 a month for two years. That's less than half of what I paid before. And I have many more services with it. I might try the 6.0 phones to see if it works better. I'll make sure I can return them in case it doesn't help.
