Question Tagged.com???

Does anyone know about this "social networking" site?

I have received a request to view a friend's photos at this site, and so I looked it up and found several links that said....spam,
beware, etc. Even Snopes didn't like it, but said...well, iffy.

I didn't go there BTW.

I am being inundated with spam to go view photos there from people I have never heard of. I delete as fast as they come in.

Shocked

OMGosh.... so it really is phishing, spam!

I wonder how that place gets the address book from people.
Are they being hacked?

I don't want to embarrass the person, from whom I received the request..only to say it is not a frequent emailer for me!

The last time I had a problem was about 3 yrs ago. A local friend sent me an email with an attachment--- Starz.exe or something similar. I did not open it and called her up. She had been hacked and lost many files on her computer in addition to having her address book appropriated. So I was very leary of this thing too. O.O

Unfortunately many computer users don't think about privacy, or being cautious of what, were & who they email and contact or where they go online... they just don't have a clue sometimes

a friend /or a friend of theirs...could have got hacked.
Those fwd'd emails are a pesky thing..
A fwd from someone can get fwd to many others
without the original sender even knowing that their email address is getting to sent all over the place.

I have 5 email addresses and a couple of throw away ones for online newsletter sign ups or someplace that I don't want to use a main email address.

I never use my main Verizon email address. But did use the sub addresses set up and use the address guard feature.

And those "pass this on" things are the worst I think!
I delete those every time.
I wouldn't be surprised it they get started by spammers to collect email addresses!

Controversy Surrounding Email Invitations

Tagged provides a feature common among social networking websites [19] whereby users are invited to provide it with their email username and password in order to import their email contacts and invite them to join the network, and it will then check their email address books for contacts and repeatedly send email invitations to people who are not yet on Tagged, stating that they have been "added as a friend" or that the inviter had sent them photos on Tagged. This process has met some criticism in the technology press[20][21] and from some users.[22] The resemblance to a "virus" has been often been mentioned, including by urban legend sites like snopes.com.[23]

Tagged.com Parental Warning: Inbox Spam

Tagged.com is notorious for spamming the entire address book of its users, which can lead to unwanted email sent to friends and family. This can be a special concern if you share a family email address. Tagged.com also frequently sends out emails saying that someone has viewed your profile in order to drive traffic back to the site, which creates extra inbox spam.
