Thumbs down This is getting ridiculous!

I go to check my e-mail and I get this message: "This action cannot be
completed because the other program is busy." I go to other websites
and I get the same message.

There's just one little problem: I'm not running any other programs!!

Don't the people who send out this crap have anything better to do?!
I suppose it could have something to do with the popups I'm getting
(you remember, the "adult sites" that I'm not visiting ) I guess I'll
just have to put my popup blocker back up to 100%. Of course, that also
also means that I'll probably be missing some legitimate popups from sites
that I visit.

I wish somebody would lock these idiots up for life!

Okay, rant's over...for now!

I had that same issue!

I downloaded and ran CWShredder, Spybot and adaware and problem solved!!!

I run them all regularly now. You can google the names and they're all freeware and recommended. When I was having a problem, the "computer geeks" site recommended that these all be downloaded then ran on my computer in that order.

Also, my puter ran so much faster and cleaner.

Good luck!

Hi Braindrain,

PopUps are the Worst.
I use SpyBot, the one that Kimmy mentioned.
I don't know the other ones she mentioned, but I think her combination must be good because I still get some and she doesn't get any...

Here's my favorite infuriating-computer smilie...

Oh, yeah. When I ran the three of those in the order that I stated, I shut down and came back and NOTHING. It was awesome. I didn't know alot about computers and pop-up's had become something I expected and thought they were just a part of online life...lol.

I hope y'all try them and let me know.

So do you not get spyware anymore, either? No more slowing down of your computer?????

It seems complicated to go and get all three... but you don't think it's complicated?

Considerthis,

I know next to nothing about computers...trust me...lol.

I was told that computergeeks.com had really good information and was a great site. I went there and read the suggestion that I mentioned above.

I was desperate and thought I'd try it (I really didn't have much expectation). I was shocked...really.

They're quick, easy, safe downloads....one checks for coolwebsearch, one spyware and one adware. I ran all three and cleared the items it tagged and was literally amazed.

Of course, I don't do alot of surfing anymore and don't go to the music share sites anymore either (notorius for yuck), but they cleaned me right up.

If I do do alot of surfing, I'll run them right after. Otherwise I run them once a week/two weeks and keep my pop-up protection to medium.

Yes, they were so worth it for me. You'll be amazed at what they find...really.

CW shredder http://www.softpedia.com/get/Interne...Shredder.shtml

spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Adaware SE: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

There are some links for the freeware.

I want to mention also that the computer tech for the company I worked for first recommended adaware to me and used it regularly.

Angry I'm going to SCREAM!!!

I've tried 3 times to follow kimmydawn's directions. I clicked on the
first link and went to the site to download the program and got this
message:

This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.
Choose 'Switch To' to activate the busy program and correct the
problem.
************************************************** ******
There was no "other program" running!! It was a d--n popup!!

Now, I have to wait until my blood pressure goes down before I try
again. It could be a long wait...

Gina,

I'm so sorry. Have you tried to do "ctrl, alt, del" to show your task manager to see what else might be running?

First, have you cleaned your temporary internet files, or tried a "clean disc"?

Also, what browser are you using? Have you tried to access any sites with an alternate internet browser if you have one?

Lastly, do you have virus protection? If so, have you recently ran it to make sure there's no virus there?

Have you looked in your add/remove programs to see if something was installed through a visited site that you can delete from there?

These are the first things I would try at this point...remembering that I have only basic knowledge.

Feel better and try these things as you can.

Red face kimmy...

It's not your fault, and I'm not mad at you. I'm angry at all these
people who make it necessary for us to have to go to these sites in
the first place. Don't they have better things to do with their time
and energy than create spyware, viruses, etc.?

I don't drive and I don't get out much, so the computer is my way of
connecting to the outside world. It really makes me angry when people
try to interfere with that. (Including my ISP!)

The people who do these things should ask themselves: what would
they do if they found out that they or a family member had a fatal
illness? How would they feel? It's not so much of a thrill then, I'll bet!

I'm using IE 6. We have the Verizon browser (our ISP), but I never use
it. Mainly because it's a bit screwed up and I don't know why. If you
look at the top of whatever browser your using, you'll see the name of
the site-in this case, Brain Talk-and right under that, the File, Edit, ect.
buttons. When I use the Verizon Yahoo browser, those buttons are
hidden under the toolbar. I have no idea why and I can't figure out
how to get it down. If I could figure it out, I'd use that browser instead.

I haven't cleared the temp internet files in a while, so I'll try that next.

Thanks for listening.
