Default My friend Jack

Jack died on Wednesday night. His memorial service will be on Sunday and his wife will sit shiva on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

I talked to Jack only three weeks ago. He told me his diagnosis of liver cancer. His voice cracked. He knew he was facing his mortality, so did I but we shared that it was only one more thing added to our lives.

I did not expect him to go so quickly.

He was a blessing in my life.

It will be hard to say goodbye. It will be hard not to cry uncontrollably.

The hardest thing will be to face life without him. I did not feel alone in a crowd because he had his white cane with the red tip and I had my walker. The two of us with visible handicaps in a crowd of people moving with ease.

I know your DW, your children and grandchildren will miss you so much.

I am sure your closest friends will grieve at the loss.

I will miss you very much. You were a hero to me.

Default The Memorial Service

It was a good memorial. Made all the better with laughter. Funny how all the stories of this badass biker dude were about cooking. Perfect contradictions.

I will get a ride to one of the nights of Shiva. DH will be out of town.

Jack's DW was so sad, her partner in life is gone. All the relatives are returning to their lives and she will be alone tonight. And all the next tonights.

We will go out to dinner a lot. Especially now when she will need to keep Jack in her heart by going over the details of their life together.
