meaning even if they aren't wet, they will stain. i had (still have) a red 100% COTTON scarf, that i used to tie around my waist. before i clued into the scarf, i had a pink-waisted (once pure-white) skirt, a pink-patched canvas handbag, lilac-patched blue blouses....... sigh.

granted, reds are strong candidates for that, but blacks and blues also can... i have pants that "dye" my undies and have to be careful to wear dark ones ... fake-fur-lined boots that dye my socks blue... they are NOT cheap boots, and NOT 15 years old.

i assure you, perspiration is not required. just a small amount of friction will do it.

the fact the dress was so easily damaged... well... i don't know how delicate the fabric is, to say if it has deteriorated or not... possibly - you'll have to judge.

but the dry bleeding per se does not mean the fabric has degraded. just that they dye was not fixed onto the fabric well enough.

generally, items that dry bleed do so less, or stop entirely, after several washings. since this dress is dry clean only, i am not sure if it will, and how many cleanings it might take for it not to paint-a-Melody-blue. so it might not be desirable.

sorry for the disappointment, but congratulations indeed on the weight loss. be sure to buy yourself something else pretty, you've earned it!

it may eventually come in handy to know that perfectly "healthy" fabric can dry bleed.

ok i'll go crawl off into my hole now... oh wait, i don't have a hole in which to crawl...
