It's pretty isn't it? The site is actually a beach not far from where I live. :) |
Beautiful
That is so pretty so relaxing. Looking at it I think of a sail boat just drifting in the sea.
You are one of those that have the majic touch, go for it. Darlene  |
There is also a thing called the "golden mean" or "golden ratio".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio and: http://emptyeasel.com/2009/01/20/a-g...n-for-artists/ This is the relationship between areas in a painting or drawing that appear pleasing and balanced to people. (this is where the psychology of perception comes in--which is good to know, as I suggested earlier). The book The DaVinci Code went into this somewhat. In your painting so far, the horizon is too high or a bit too low according to this concept. IF you lower your horizon you can do some designing with the clouds and some texture may work here, or sunrise/sunset colors etc. If you raise it, you can use waves and color instead for the elements. Remember the water often reflects the sky above. Many artists do this naturally, but when you are a beginner it is good to know...then it will appear more naturally as you work from then on. (no one really expects you to go into the math of it, unless you want to be an architect! ;) ) I think your ideas, Jo so far are good. All artists learn from every thing they do, so being open to that is very important. |
wow Jo!
I am just catching up here.....it is beautiful! Personally I wouldn't add too much, maybe an outcrop like Anne suggested or a distant sailboat? but I love it! Ya got talent, girl :D |
Hi Jo,
I think it is possible the horizon is too close to center and the two halves a bit too similar. The blue sky gets beach colored at the bottom and the blue sea gets beach colored at the bottom. I like your style and technique though. My own painting attemps turn disasterous. If you raise or lower the horizon or like others said put some outcropping in from one side it may give it some tension. Maybe take some of the horizon sky color into the sea too then it would connect them. I hope this helps. pat |

look forward to seeing the result if you decide to make the adjustments... :) ~ waves ~ |
It is a beautiful painting. I had two thoughts. First, the human element, which would be too difficult to add. Then I thought that a few birds or their silhouettes in the sky might add that connection. I hope you can understand what I am trying to say. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to come up with words to convey the idea adequately. :winky:

I love art in so many different things and ways to exspress it ! And many beg to have the creativity to do so , ,so asking for others opinions to me is a ploy of what one may want to add or may see in their own vision ,, What do you think? Me I personally think its serene !!! |
Exsactly !
