Default A Bit of Prose for a change !

RAIN ON A CARAVAN ROOF

Grey rolling clouds chased
by the black, spied on through curtain gap.
Blanket coddled boy, expectant on the bunk,
cold air kisses force small hands into cover
as a single tap, announces the show.
Staccato water drum roll on the metal roof,
adjusted summer storm tempo
does it's hypnotic best.
Half-hearted eyelid flutter,
futile gesture against soothing sound
sleep

CITY STREET

Blanket noise, constant,
horns and shouts like rapier accents
hints of aural ingredients.
Mirror gloss men in their element
man of rags on cardboard, invisible contrast.
Diners in shop windows, on show
provide bus stop TV.
Fallen ice cream,vanilla pavement blemish.
Man with broom moving bits of stuff
from left to right.
Kids faces pressed on glass, blank stares.
Ninja Pigeon dancing amongst relentless footfall.
Serpentine queues, garish concrete blocks,
urban watering holes.
Fractured pieces of sky, trees amongst chaos
defiant in solemn stillness.
Ebb and flow, wax and wane.
People.

Hi Gerry

Can you recommend any American poetry ? I'm familiar with literature but shamefully ignorant of poetry except Whitman,Frost and Dickinson.

Nigel

I think it's really great the way you put your thoughts to pen and paper.

Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations; other than the obvious like Longfellow and Poe.

I love TS Elliot and that time frame. Older are Shakespeare sonnets, Browning, thereare so many. Depends on your taste. You'll know it when you read it. You can browse using computer to see what you respond to. Sample stuff. Like any art you just know when it's right.

Nigel,
You had asked previously asked about American poets. I had completely forgotten a book of poems given to me by a relative some time ago. Today, I came across the book of poems entitled "Collected Poems" by Edna St. Vincent Millay. Her Prose works were under the pseudonym Nancy Boyd.

Can't help but wonder if having read some of her poems in the past caused me to experience in your poetry an interest as well as enjoying them by interpreting and envisioning their meanings.

Again, thank you for sharing.
