pillows are great starting projects! Then a small quilt for a baby or for a lap....

You will love it!

one of my friends just finished a big , big quilt in honor of her nephew who passed in the 9-11 tragedy (N.Y.F.D.) he also had aids and her quilt is a beautiful tribute to him and aids awareness and also those lost on 9-11.
I myself do not sew or anything but it is a big craft with many groups and clubs here in Florida. and I go to the shows amazed at how wonderful the quilts look and feel . a scarp of this and a scrap of that . . . sewn together and a master piece appears. one of you should post a pic of your quilting. :)

hey .. I sew ALOT ... and quilt some .. but the sewing is independent of the quilting ... so .. really - I don't quilt quilt .. I sew and tie ... and sew and sew and sew ...

quilting is the 'end' of a project .. it's all the sewing done BEFORE any quilting is attempted ... and when it's time to quilt .. sometimes I tie ...

so ... am I really a 'tire'?? :Wheel:

inquiry minds would like to know!!

Quilt

I've always thought about doing quilting, but with all my other hobbies keeping me busy, I just haven't had time!:o lol
I helped last year with a quilt made at our local church, there were 5 of us who worked on the panels, and one friend, Julie, then put it all together as she was great at quilting. It was made into a wall hanging, and hangs in the church. (I've attached a picture.) Now, everytime I look at that quilt, I remember Julie, because she was taken by cancer last Sept...:icon_cry:

I'm a quilter although lately I've been sucked up by knitting, crocheting, and tatting. I like to spin, and I also adore origami. I'm a little overboard on decorative geometry. :-)

I need to get back to quilting actually; I've got a finished top that's needed to get basted for ages. It's for a friend's wedding, and they've been married for *mumbledy* years now. *sigh*

Bird...don't know why I thought you had moved. It's just too darned bad we don't live closer together, we could quilt while watching the neighbors. lol

I have just recently got into sewing...........

By nature I am an outdoors girl...hunting and fishing and farmin....well thanks to this ole disease I have been trapped indoors much to much. So Thanks to the love of a dear friend whom gave me a sewing machine around Christmas time and the guiding hand of my grand mother, the love of quilts and crafts passed down from from generations gone by....I am now a sewing person.

I have recently made my first piece work wall hanging. I have it all sewn together and am ready to quilt it. It will be a wall hanging with the picture pockets on it....dont know if ya'll have seen them or not but they are way cool. I dont have a pattern just a picture of one so I am going all on my own with no prior experience ............lol this should be a true test of my abilitites.........I HAVE LOVED IT SO FAR........If it turns out well (making it as a gift) I have another friend I need to make one for whom is moving into her own place...then on to bigger things.......
I am happy to know I am amung great company in enjoying this dying art.........

(if I need advice and help good to know where to turn lol....)

I loved seeing the other wall hanging.....When I can give this gift to the new owner I will post a pic of it here....but in the meantime would LOVE to see other masterpeices......

Guys, I forget to check this forum....

Momma, I sent you an email/PM...about something else!

There are so many ways you can learn to quilt...there are books, and DVD's...shoot I bet there is somewhere on the internet! And quilt shops and fabric stores have lessons! Go to a senior citizen center and have a little lady show you!

I have been handquilting more lately and it really does make me feel good!

And I've been working on two quilted stockings, which honest to goodness I should have completed by now, but my interest wanes faster now adays! Like a ADD kid sometimes!!!

Just reviving an ancient thread... :p

DW & I are a team in many of our hobbies—quilting being one. I design (EQ 7)—she quilts (constructs). We're currently exploring crazy quilts; working with velvet presents some new/different/unique challenges.

So many ideas—so little time...

I don't know if anyone will see this or not, but I am making my first quilt, a rag quilt with flannel and denim. Here's a few pics to check out. This first one is showing the leopard flannel blocks, and denim blocks, as well as my second quilt project materials, the autism awareness puzzle fabric and royal blue will be for my son's rag quilt:

This is a digital preview i made in MS Paint of what I'm doing with the denim to make a design out of it all, the star pocketed jeans in the first photo will have the pocket's cut and put as the center blocks in both our quilts.

Here is my test quilt panels I made into a cute tote bag with some leftover black denim I had on hand. Cool huh?

I'll be sure to share photos of both as I make them. :D
