Default Went in for one, ended up losing two

I finally got the broken tooth removed along with one right behind it because it had a horrendus cavaty that was causing me a lot of pain. I got like 4-5 stitches and they will disolve in about a week. The novacaine is wearing off but I don't remember bleeding THIS much from an extraction before, I think the gauze is lasting only fifteen to twenty minutes before I have to change it. I am just scared this is not normal...

Hi Pamster,

Anytime you are bleeding from an extraction use at least 2-3 small gauze pads at one time folded in half to bite down on. Keep biting firmly without letting up for 30 minutes. If at the end of 30 minutes the site is still oozing, remove those pads and place new ones (again at least 2-3 stacked on top of each other) folded in half for another 30 minutes without opening your mouth. You can do this two more times if necessary and the oozing should settle down or stop completely. If it is sill oozing blood alot after the 4th time or it starts to ooze later on in the day, take a slightly moistened tea bag, place it over the socket(s) and gently bite down for 15 minutes without opening your mouth. The tannin in the tea will stop the bleeding. If the area is still oozing alot of blood go to the ER.

The extraction site is an open wound, even if it has stitches. Like any other wound, you need to apply steady, even pressure for 30 minutes without disturbing it for the blood to clot. Every time you disturb the dressing you dislodge the clot.

Remember, steady, even pressure........

I hope by now you are doing ok..... please keep in touch!

Bryanna

It stopped bleeding after I used a tea bag, thanks for mentioning it Bryanna! I feel better today, but depressed I have lost seven molars now. When do you think it's time to throw in the towel and get partials or dentures? I am just afraid with my luck that I would get the partial medicare covers and then another tooth would break and I'd be SOL.

I am glad this is finally over and that there was NO infection...

[Hey Pamster....... glad to hear that you are feeling better!

You can have a partial denture made at anytime 4 weeks post op healing from these extractions. Most partial dentures can be made to accomodate additional tooth loss in the future. This means that the original framework can be made so teeth can be added to it at a minimal cost should you have more extracted. It is actually best to have a partial made while you still have several teeth remaining as those teeth will give the partial denture support.

Hope you continue to feel better........ have a nice weekend!

Bryanna

Thanks Bryanna, I will have to see about it, maybe things will change and they will cover additions to partials. I don't know. But I really appreciate your posting to me. I am feeling better, but I hurt in the cheek and jaw where the needle went in. But that's to be expected I bet.
