Ok went to the oral surgeon today who pulled the 2nd molar. She xrayed and looked at the tooth, nothing. When I bite certin ways pain.

She scraped a little around the tooth. Put me on Amox for 1 week and said if not better she will call my General dentist.

So....what should I do ???:cool:

Why the amoxicillin? Did she give any indication that there was an infection or inflammation?

Did she use the bite stick (tooth sleuth) to check for fractures?

I would see the GD and have him/her check with the bite stick.

Does it feel any different since she scraped around the tooth??

I dont think its any different after the scraping. When I bit down on th eplastic thing I felt pain, not huge but it was there.

She hit the tooth above it with the handle of the mirror but that didnt hurt. Sh said she was trying the amox because I have some tenderness near the socket . I think its called wishfull thinking.

I took the Amox do you think I should not take it ??

She said if no diff in one week come back to her and she will call my GD. Why do you think that is ?? I mean why wouldn't she just have me go direct ?/

I have no idea what she is thinking. Sounds to me like she gave you the amoxil without too much thought. If there is no infection then you do not need the antibiotic. If there is an infection then she should tell you that.

Can you go to your GD without her approval? If so, that's what I would do.

yea not sure, I think she is grasping at straws ?? She said she was "trying" it on the chance that is why I was feeling discomfort at and around the socket and in the adjecent tooth.

I did take it and it will be done Monday. I can go to my GD on my own no problem. What reason can you think that she would have me ome back to her and that she would contact my GD ??

I wondered if she was going to have him fix the prob and bill her or something or if she was going to tell him to not tell me that she broke it ????

She should be able to tell if there is a problem at the site of the extraction without guessing so I'm not certain what her reasoning is at this point. Does the tooth feel any better since taking the antibiotic?

She may be offering to assist you somehow by speaking to your GD but I really don't see how that would help in your situation. I would let the GD evaluate the tooth and get his opinion. Then they can confer if necessary.

No I don't think that she is trying to cover anything up and I wouldn't even entertain that idea. If she thought that she did something to that tooth, she would tell you because sooner than later it would become evident. As I've said before, that tooth could have been cracked or fractured prior to the extraction and it was not evident because you were using other teeth to chew on and now you aren't. OR you could have cracked it when eating on it after the extraction because it is more susceptible to that sort of thing now that the other tooth is gone.

Let us know how it's feeling and what your GD says......

nope no diff since the Amox. I will try to get ina and see my GD this week. I doubt I cracked it eating on it because the tooth only has a very small filling on the cheek side and I havent eaten anything hard at all !

A tooth does not need to have a filling in it to get a crack in it. A virgin tooth can crack if it is bit down on in a certain way. When teeth are missing, the remaining teeth take more abuse from chewing then they are suppose to. A tooth can crack on food that is soft or hard or it can crack from the pressure of another tooth hitting against it the wrong way. So you see there are many different reasons why a tooth can crack.
