If you had all 4 secomnds removed then had a first on top removed you now have no first or second on that side on top right ??

Is eating a prob ??

Why not have a partial or implant ??

Hi cvcman,

I had all my second molars removed and the wisdom teeth moved into those spaces, so there are no open spaces from that. I had my upper left first molar removed when I was 18 and my wisdom tooth moved over so the space from my first molar is small. I never opted to replace that first molar because I have never missed it. Howver, I would have replaced it if the space were bigger.

gotcha, well I made an appt with my GD for Monday at 1pm, wish me luck please, lol

I am going to be so upset if he tells me it needs to come out, i dont want a partial or implant if I can help it. I am a big 50 yr old baby around the dentist and dont want him removing the nerve either.

I guess I want him to say " hey I see a pc of bone fragment here " he pulls it out pain free and I live for 50 more years with NO more tooth problems, thats what I want.

Thank you for your help, the good thing is I do trust my GD and I feel he is as conservitive as they come so ......

NO, not a good idea at all. It is imperative that the dentist check your tooth to determine where the discomfort is.....if you are on pain meds the test will be invaluable. Hope you see this before your appointment!

well I saw it. Heres how the apt went. First off they charged me 100.00 ! 80.00 for the apt and 20 for the xrays ( 2 ) seems high no ??

I explained everything to him, xrays looked fine He had me do the bite test, I told him sometimes its one back cusp and sometimes the other. He dug around with the pick and here is what he said.

" I dont see any sign of a crack or infection, I do think with the flap being done during extracion and the tounge twitching it was nerver related. When I dug near the extraction site up against the first molar you jumped, I think what you are feeling is the site still not 100% healed.

" you tell me when you run your tounge on the extraction site against the first molar it feels sensitive, I would be more concerned if there were no sensitivity there and you had biting pain"

Therefore I think you should give it some more time and if the sensitivity goes away at the ext site and the biting sensitivity is still ther we need to look further, but again I do not see any damage or indications of a crack"

Now I thought that biting problems was an indication of a crack ???

Is this a BS answer ?? He is usually a very straight shooter. Let me know what you think about the price and answer pls

Thx

Hi cvcman,

Not ALL biting problems are indicative of a cracked tooth. Your symptoms as I said could be any number of things. If the bite stick test was negative, then that means that currently there is no evidence of a crack large enough to be causing your discomfort. You could have some temporary trauma to a nerve from the incision and/or extraction process. Generally this is not a permanent issue but the discomfort can last for several months before the nerves heal completely. It is a good thing that the xray was negative for pathology at the extraction site and also good that it showed your tooth to be healthy. It would be wise to avoid eating anything hard or chewy in that area for awhile longer to allow the area to heal more.

Re the charges...... When was the last time you saw this dentist for and examination and was charged a fee? If it was less than 6 months ago, you should not have been charged, especially $100, for the exam this time. A small fee of $25 or 35 would be one thing but $100 is ridiculous. Now if you have not had an exam charge in the last 6 months or more, then he has the right to charge you his usual examination fee this time.

I think if it were me, I would avoid eating there other than very soft foods. I would keep it very clean using a very soft bristle tooth brush and floss the area daily. Other than that, it may be a matter of time before the area heals completely. It would be wise to monitor the healing progress of the extraction site with an xray in 6 months just to compare it to todays xray.

I really don't think this was anyones fault. Removing a tooth is not as simple as one might think when it comes to the millions of nerve endings in the mouth. Temporary nerve trauma is not unusual and usually resolves itself sooner than later. Everyone is different..... be patient..... Ok??

As far as when ive been to him, I was there before the tooth was pulled back in September on an emergency Sunday morning, he drilled the nerve out and saw the crack and sent me to the oral surgeon, he charged me 200.00 for this emergeny call.

I have not been back since then and called the other day and told them I was having biting pain, they told me he was booked for 3 weeks but they could get me in IF I thought it was a problem.

So.. I assume this is why they chgd me 80.00 for the call because I asked them to get me in now and 20.00 for the 2 xrays. Does this seems right ??

I did feel pain when biting down in a few areas and also told him I feel pain with crunchy things, he still thinks its the nerve/root area not a crack.

To me it seems like a cracked tooth but then again I am a salesman not a dentist.

From what I have told YOU what do you think ?? I just cant understand why if its not cracked it hurts somewhat like the crack in the other tooth hurt.
I do think its weird that sometimes it seems like on cusp and sometimes the other and there is sensitivity around the base of the tooth where the other tooth used to be....

Maybe im a waco but its just my thinking..

Hi cvcman,

My point in asking when you saw this dentist last was because in most cases, if you are an established patient of that dentist in that you see him for periodic exams twice a year, generally you would not be charged a large fee (if any) for an emergency visit. You may be charged for the xrays but not the exam. With that said, a sunday appointment could warrant a separate exam charge because it is definitely after hours.

It is impossible for me to diagnose your problem over the internet. Your symptoms are common of a cracked tooth.... a traumatized nerve..... a broken cusp....... or a cracked filling..... etc. The crack only has to be microscopic to cause discomfort. In that case, the crack is usually not evident clinically until it becomes larger.

Are you able to avoid eating in that area? Or are you still testing it with food now and again??
