Default jump on the rollercoaster~

OH, and I thought it would be SO easy, so I get to work, got my seabond in, feeling good, little nervous, and I logged into my phone with 184 calls in the que waiting to be answered, took my 1st call, okay a little weird, 2nd not getting better, 5th call, got done, ran in the bathroom with another seabond, in the stall, get it changed, back to my desk....8 more calls, looked at my boss, and said "i'm going home, be right back' and off I went....made the adjustment with a bigger piece of seabond, got back to work, MUCH better, then came the pain, in my jaw, my head was aching....I couldn't talk anymore...I made all of 3 full hours and had to go home, I was supposed to be on leave until next monday anyhow, and talked to my manager and off I went....I'm on leave....I was sooo upset with myself. And my dentist closed around 2 p.m. so I couldn't catch them....arg....so Monday a.m. I will be at the office....more adjustments....okay, so I was optomistic, sun shining, everythings gonna be okay attitude i always have...well, I got in the door, put down my bags and cried for about 10 min. went in and took out the adhesive and now they are slipping out on their own....arg....not comfy...but will work on getting it resolved....so, I popped an aleve and I'm in bed and will get some rest and call it a day!

Is it this hard for all of us?

Default Day 15

Okay, so went to the oral surgeon, who I LOVE! he and his staff are incredible, love them ALL! Clean bill of health and note for work not to return until 2/5 so that I can get adjustments needed and find what works for me...went to the dentist right after and got more adjustments, the gums are shrinking fast and got adjustments needed, now just looking for adhesives to help until the hard align, may get the soft, we'll see, so the seabond gave me goopy saliva mouth, ick, so tried Fixodent Food control today, THAT worked awesome, even with the posting about the lawsuits and my panic attack, I'm trying it....BUT found something else I'm getting ready to try...Cushion Grip, I'll report later...

Went out for b-fast w/friend today, went well....ate a full lunch, with NO pain using the fixodent...LOL...getting there! Just trial and error and PATIENCE above all....

talking is much better, but 10 hours with back to back calls? Um, yeah...once I get the fit resolved...LOL....

Welp...getting there, slowly but surely!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Default Day 16

Still the tongue refuses to stop playing around the plate....LOL....TRYING so hard to get over that, but guess it will stop after a while huh? LOL....

Today is better....I can now brush my gums which makes me feel better....using the adhesives helps so much and I'm actually eating stuff I use to.....REALLY dying for a big mac, large fries and a diet coke....LOL....

I LOVE the smile though, that is the one thing I focus on, when I look in the mirror I am amazed....and the fact that it is filling out my upper lip and my cheeks...LOL....and I notice that my chin line is more defined as well....so liking all those positive aspects....

just hoping to find that adhesive that will not be goopy in my mouth feeling....looking forward to the hard align but that won't be until July....

so onward and upward....life is different now....but managable!

Default Day 20

So, as I said, the tongue won't stop playing, which had me running off to the dentist today thinking the red and white round bumps scared the hedes out of me....but it is normal...more adjustments to the plate, and have some 'natural' sores in my upper palate and some on the gums as well...but Dr. says that is normal and will heal up, will just keep rinsing with the warm salt water....but still not comfy enough to really talk long, explained to me that the jaw muscle pain will stop after a while, but my face muscles are still getting use to their new buddy....just like my 'curious tongue' will as well...LOL...if I wasn't so old, I would go back to school and go into the dentistry field....it is quite interesting how the mouth, tongue, teeth, gums, all feed into our lives....

hard at this early stage to get use to the dentures as we go through so many adjustments and each time you have to 're-adjust' to the adjustment...LOL...but we do though huh?

LOVE the Secure Denture bonding creme I got on the internet though...no taste, no smell, no oozing, AND the best thing, they STAY IN PLACE...eating isn't hard, gums still a little sensitive and can kind of eat potato chips, my FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD...LOL...but I break it off into little pieces, so it takes a bit, but I won't be gaining any weight that way...LOL...tried Bacon today....that was okay, still tenderness, but the Secure does help with that as well..AND because I don't have the 'slippage' as with other adhesives, the gums are appearing to heal the sore spots quicker....LOVE IT, RECOMMEND trying it to see what you think and BYPASS the others....go straight for it....

Default Day 35

What a month! As I rounded the bend, I was hit with bad news that Mom was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer....that was on a Thurs, they admitted her to the hospital on Sat, i got there Tues, she passed at 1 a.m. on Wed....although I miss her, she was blessed with not having to suffer for long with the cancer. She had been my ROCK for alot of things, especially the dentures as she had both upper and lowers done at age 19, so she understood completely, I didn't know she had dentures until I was about 25 years old...you NEVER saw her withOUT her dentures in!

But all in all my experience has been a positive one, although it has CHANGED my life in MANY MANY fashions, you need to keep this one thing in mind...it is a RELEARNING experience....it won't be awkward forever, you WILL learn as you did when you where little! And it will become natural as it did as well!

You WILL experience ups and downs as with any life change, but you WILL get through it.

I will wait until my 6-8 months to do a hard align, I will by pass the expense of the soft align as Secure Denture Adhesive is REALLY working and I am comfy and confident with it!

I will keep posting and checking posts and will help any of you that have questions and do the best I can.....remember we all need someone who UNDERSTANDS what you are going through and I'm soooo happy I found this forum before AND after as it has been a HUGE source of encouragement for me!

So denture wearers, smile smile smile! And call your dentist when ever you are uncomfortable for ANY REASON, get your adjustments, don't 'settle' or think 'this is the way it is'.....and if you need adhesive, USE it....what ever you are comfy with! I have posted my findings on all the adhesives I have come across.....and don't neglect your gums underneath, massage those puppies, they need love too still....and the roof of your mouth and rinse with salt water rinses when your teeth are cleaning...love those gums! And love yourself.....this is a big change, so as you are going through it all, learn self reward....don't be afraid to 'spoil' yourself a little....take the time for a hot relaxing bath....do those nails (with dentures i actually HAVE real nails...yeah I was a biter...;O().....ask for a back rub.....eat slowly (weight loss is great too although not for me, didn't gain either, but found that swiss rolls REALLY where soft...LOL)be good to YOU!

Have a great day!

I was soo uncomfortable and trying to deal, but called him yesterday, went in the p.m. and he sanded down a bulge on the side that was kicking the plate out and shortened the back of the plate and when I put them back in....wow...what a HUGE difference, I had gone out to do errands prior and couldn't shop! I know ME not being able to SHOP? I KNEW something was wrong, I didn't want to look or talk to anyone...and VIOLA, 30 min. after getting these adjustments I was in my car singing away! (I have been a singer for MANY years and it is my LOVE)...I was soooo happy, and this am, I feel soooo much better, eating is easier too....
So GO TO YOUR dentist for adjustments! That is what they are there for! And I will SAY IT AGAIN.....KEEP YOUR DENTURES IN! Take them out only to rinse and clean! you NEED to allow your gums to mold! I LOVE MY SMILE.....I am soooooo happy I did this now....YEAH!
I'm only on day 3 of my top plate (hate it) but after reading your post, will try to be more positive. I have to confess that I rushed home 2 days straight and took them out -----I will go see the denturist today and home he makes adjustments to make them more comfortable ---it's hard not to think about them all day long....I too love to sing and can barely speak, let alone sing with this "thing" I'll keep on trucking.....
