Just to give an update, I saw a iaomt dentist to check up on the condition but she seemed unfamiliar simply becuase she was a dentist and not a mallofaxial surgeon. She told me to give it another 6-8 weeks and if it doesn't close up, then she'll get me to a specialist. She also said there are thousands of individuals walking around with cavitations without any issue. This was around post op day 35. Unfortunately I have to report that I've stopped worrying about it because on post op day 43 I developed diahrea. I was taking massive amounts of probioitics (acidophillus supplements and s. boulardi supplements) while on clindamycin and afterwards but on post op day 43 I developed diahrea and severe stomach pains whicH I suspect to be a c diff infection. I don't have insurance so I'm really trying to keep the bills down but it seems impossible. I'm seeing my doctor on march 11 which is post op day 55 or so, and will have him order stool tests for c diff. Sigh, it never ends. Again bryanna, thank you for all your help. Of all the professionals I've visited and paid hard earned money to, I believe the advice I received here was the most honest and helpful. |

Hi JWang,
Well that dentist didn't seem very helpful She is correct in that there are many people unknowingly walking around with cavitation. However, not everyone of those people has had the dental complications that you have had post extraction. So in spite of the frequency, you may or may not be in a different situation. If that area does not close within the month, I would see an oral surgeon for evaluation.... or ask that dentist to refer you to one who also belongs in the IAOMT organization. The intestinal problems that you are having could be related to the clindamycin or it could be something else that is less worrisome. There is no need to take MASSIVE amounts of a probiotic or saccharomycees boulardii. Too much of a good thing can disrupt the intestinal flora just as badly as not enough. May I ask what probiotic were using and how much of it and the s. boulardii were you taking? yea, the dentist was really nice and comforting, but I should have found a iaomt surgeon, I just didn't see any listed in my area and when I called her receptionist assured me they could take care of post-op wisdom teeth removal. I had a good sense she didn't understand exactly what I was asking, but I just went anyway. I've been taking flora prime http://www.mccombsplan.com/store/pro...cat=254&page=2 which contains Lactobacillus acidophillus 1.5 B Bifidobacterium bifidum 1.5B Blend of, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhaminosus, lactobacillus pantarum, L salivarius, Steptococcus thermophillus, L paracasei, L bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium longum, bifido bacterim breve, B. infantis 3B and I"ve been taking 3 of those, twice a day. Then I've been taking 2 capsules of Jarrow S Boulardii twice a day. http://www.jarrow.com/product-265 which is about 5 billion S boulardii per capsule. I only started the S boulardii after the pains began, I had been taking the flora prime since 5 weeks before amoxicillin and clindamycin, and continued it all the way through. |

Hi JWang,
I think you are taking way too much of both products. Generally, s. boulardii is recommended at 500 mgs 2 times a day. The flora prime is designed to be used in combination with the other mccombs supplements as part of a detox program. This probiotic should not be used in that quantity unless you are taking it as directed within that said program and not for long term usage. If it were me, I would take the s. boulardii 500 mgs twice a day and a probiotic called Culturelle which contains Lactobacillus G bacteria. Here is a short blip from culturelle website: What is Lactobacillus GG? Found in Culturelle, Lactobacillus GG is the most clinically researched and proven strain of probiotic for digestive, immune and overall health. Doctors Sherwood Gorbach and Barry Goldin made the discovery in 1985, successfully creating a strain strong enough and sticky enough to survive stomach acids and successfully colonize in the intestines. Seriously, I think you have been overdoing a good thing and should consider cutting way back asap. You don't necessarily need several strains of probiotics on a daily basis. Again, those products are really meant for short term use for detox purposes. Let me know what your thoughts are on this......
