Throat sensations after root canal
Hello
In february of 2008, I had a root canal in front incisor #8. The root canal itself went smoothly, and quickly relieved the pain I'd had in the tooth. However, a few days later as the swelling went down, I developed an uncomfortable cramped sensation in the back of my throat, over the greater cornu of the hyoid bone.
After numerous specialists, CATscans, MRIs, etc over the past 2 years, I still have this chronic foreign body sensation. The tonsil on that side of my mouth is bigger and harder than the other side, and so is the cervical node on that side of my neck.
The throat doctor I see these days thinks this is a neuromuscular or connective tissue problem; she has seen similar conditions a few times and thinks it has something to do with a chronic tendon injury. She doesn't think it could have anything to do with the root canal, because that was in the front of my mouth, and all this discomfort is in the back. The only way she thinks it could be related, is if having my mouth propped open hard for the procedure caused some kind of tendon injury which has never healed properly.
This has had a significant and negative impact on my quality of life, and I am becoming depressed to think that I'm going to be stuck with this for the rest of my life. Has anyone ever heard of anything similar, or have any advice?
