Default Osteomyelitis

How would a person know if they had this?

Bryanna, it is me again and I am getting so upset about this tooth area. I had the wisdom tooth out eight weeks ago now and still have pressure in that area that is also around (in front of) my left ear......on/off almost every day. I do not have a fever and the last time I went to MD, they did a blood test and my white blood count was fine. When I went to the dentist two weeks ago, he did an x ray and said he didnt see an infection. The site looks like it is healed nicely -- for the most part, it is still pink and indented but filled in. I cannot stop worrying about this tooth and I feel like maybe we are missing something here. Unless this pressure is from clenching my teeth (During day I am really good at not but not sure what is going on at night), I am getting really freaked out!!

Any advice!! THANK YOU!!

There is no reason to think that you have osteomyelitis and your symptoms are not indicative of having it. Here is a good site about that..
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001473/

Clenching and/or grinding your teeth WILL cause pain/pressure in the area of the TMJ joint which is located in front of the ear.

I think you are clenching your teeth more often than you realize and it is irritating the musculature area at your TMJ joint. Your symptoms are classic of someone who has this habit.

Thanks Bryanna. I am just under so much darn stress and this "area" of my mouth is making matters worse! I just am too upset to even leave the house to go to the dentist. I know I need to.....but am just tired. I am also scared of what they may tell me!

The pressure seems to go behind my eye sometimes too. And when I bite down, I feel like that last molar, in front of the extraction site, is the first to "hit." I have been chewing on the opposite side (of the extraction) for years.....so I think the right side is worn down more than the left, thus causing an uneven bite which was probably made worse by the upper left extraction.

Where do I turn? Back to the dentist for the guard? How do they do this and what I am in for? I just am so darn anxious lately! Also, I have the small cavity in the tooth in front of the extraction site but do not want anyone touching that area!!!!

Any advice?

Thanks~

The more you write about your symptoms and stress... the more it sounds like you have a bite issue.

I recommend that you make an appt with your dentist to have that cavity repaired and have them take an impression to make the nightguard. It is as simple as that so long as you can muster up the courage to go and do it!

The impression will not interfere with the healing from the extraction. The site is healed well enough to have this done without any worry......

Once you get the nightguard, sometimes you have to go back to the dentist for some minor adjustments on it. But they are very simple and painless!!

Please consider doing this..... I really think it may help you alot!!!!

Bryanna,

I made the appt today to see my dentist for a consult about tooth/extraction site and to talk about the guard. I then freaked out and canceled it and now have for Tuesday morning...he is off on Monday! UGH! This anxiety of mine is hitting an all time high! Now I feel so scared that I made a mistake!!! Anyway, I am still so worried about my extraction site being infected. I would have some indication, correct? It is dark pink but is healed over and indented. I do not have a fever and the pressure into my ear is gone today and was gone yesterday. I do have a "strange" sensation back there ...almost like I feel like the tooth is still there, but I think it is the gum tissue --new, hitting up against my cheek since this extraction was on an angle. This is soooo maddening. I am not in any pain....just my teeth on the upper left side feel like there is food inbetween them sometimes. And there may be...I have tried to cut back a bit on my flossing since it was getting excessive. I just dont understand all of this. Can you reconfirm that some people really do take THIS many weeks to heal??????? This almost seems unreal that I am this sensitive (and I am to meds, ect). I just hate this!!!!

THanks for the ear!

Kris

Kris,

What mistake did you make?? The wisdom tooth was in a bad spot in your mouth and if you hadn't removed it you would have ended up with more problems. So why do think it was a mistake?

According to all of your posts, there is NO indication that there is an infection....NONE. So unless your dentist sees something clinically, you have no symptoms of an infection. It is very normal for the healing to take MANY weeks in some people. Sometimes a few months! There are many things that go on during the healing phase and you are hypersensitive to every little sensation. Most people are not that sensitive to it, so they will tell you their extraction site healed faster when in fact it took just as long as yours. You have to remember that you are dealing with bone here. That takes time to heal.

If you were over flossing, then the gum tissue in between those teeth could be slightly inflamed and that could give the sensation of something being stuck between your teeth. Still floss, but not excessively and that area will feel better.

Thanks Bryanna! Your knowledge and insight really do make me feel better! I just am so anxious about my mouth...almost obsessed. I think because, in my mind, I should be healed by now. And yes, I am very sensitive to pain and meds and such so I guess this is just another one to add to the list but since it is in my mouth/head, it just seems like I couldnt NOT think about it. The last few days have been much. much better. I do have the odd sensations here and there and now today the front teeth -- but my nose is stuffed up too so maybe this is sinus? Can I have sinus pressure in the front teeth????
Anyway, you should be charging me for these "psych" sessions! LOL!! I wish I could laugh but I am just so traumatized by this extraction...I know sounds odd to many, but this has been quite the ordeal.

Kris,

My charge..... free. I'm here to help with those who are obsessed, even slightly , as well as those who are not.

Yes, inflammation in your sinus can make your front teeth achy as well as your other teeth. But so can BRUXING!!

My suggestion to you today is to laugh... out loud as often as you can. It will help clear those obsessive cobwebs away......
