Hi Rae,

You are very welcome!!

PLEASE..... do not let them put a mercury filling in your tooth. The dental offices that still use mercury/silver colored fillings called amalgams are definitely not up to date on their procedures. It is NOT a safe material to use and will sooner than later become outlawed. Most of Europe hasn't used this filling material for years! There are alternatives materials that are safer and bond better to the tooth.... please don't let anyone convince you differently!

Keep us posted on how things are going ;-)

I logged on here today specifically to ask what you thought on this issue.
I haven't got ahold of the dentist yet, but I will absolutely make sure NOT to let them use this on me!! Especially since I've battled peripheral neuropathy issues for over 5 yrs and toxidity is one of the possible culprits. I'm Finally getting 'better' Re: PN and the LAST thing I need is to put more potential toxic material in my 'worn out' body!

THANK YOU so much for answering my question BEFORE I even asked it!
How awesome is that ! :)

Good for you Rae!! Stand your ground on this one because you are on the right track with the toxicity issues and how easily something so "insignificant" as a dental filling could mess you up.

This 'old' dentist office that I was going to... uses the exact type of filling you said NOT to get!!!
And when I politely said I need to cancel my appointment and said that via 'strict orders from my physician' to NOT use ANYthing that has 'mercury' in it......she defensively stated "WELL.....I spose he told you not to eat any FISH!!" gotta luv it.

She muttered something to the effect that
'the minute amount of mercury that could escape wouldn't warrant health problems.....'

When she asked 'why', I gave her a quick speal regarding my 5 yr battle with peripheral neuropathy, of which neurotoxins are known culprits.....
well, that sent her out into left field so she didn't pursue any further explanation.........:p

In 2 wks I will be going to an UP-TO-DATE dentist who uses non-toxic material.

I will get in ANYbody's face who is 'ignorant' of PN and how horribly it has ripped me off of over 5 years of my life......my kids NEEDED me the MOST during this god-aweful nightmare!! I have ZERO tolerance to anybody trying to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about!! I've LIVED the nightmare!!!
I should say that 'warrants' me with the credentials necessary to be 'picky' as to WHERE I get medical/dental treatment!

Thank you and good day
What would I have done without this forum ;)
Thank you Bryanna

Hi Rae,

Kudos to you!!!! The woman you spoke to at the dental office is unfortunately misinformed and she has no clue how much she is hurting people with her lack of pertinent knowledge. In all probability, she is not formerly educated about the toxcity of materials used in dentistry and only goes by what she hears her employer tell his patients. Unfortunately this scenerio is all too typical..... so the patient has to some how become "self" informed!!

Here is a clip of information about mercury... the site that this came from is:
http://www.hbci.com/~wenonah/hydro/hg.htm
You have to scroll down the page.... lots of info. Feel free to pass it onto your dentist!!

<<Today a typical adult carries ten amalgams weighing a total of about ten grams, of which five grams is mercury. What little research there is on the rate at which mercury escapes amalgam suggests about half a gram of mercury will escape from these ten fillings over the ten-year life of these fillings, and most of this mercury will be absorbed by the bearer of the amalgams. To put a half-gram in context, consider these facts: Half a gram of mercury dropped into a ten-acre lake warrants the promulgation of a fish advisory for the lake in Minnesota; the tennis shoes with mercury in them that were banned by the Minnesota legislature in 1994 contained half a gram of mercury per shoe.>>

I wholeheartedly agree with you.... you have earned the "be picky" award!!! I am SO glad you are watching out for YOU!!!

Please keep us in the loop of how things are going........ :-))
