Default Homemade toothpaste recipe....

Homemade Baking Soda and Coconut Oil Toothpaste Ingredients:

2 tablespoons organic extra virgin unrefined Coconut Oil
1 tablespoon aluminum free Baking Soda
5- 10 drops of Peppermint oil or other essential oil of your choice

*You can make a larger or smaller batch depending on how long you would like it to last and what size container you’re storing it in.
Instructions:

1. Mix baking soda and coconut oil in a small container, until it forms a paste like consistency

2. Add peppermint oil and mix

This recipe it meant for multiple uses. Coconut oil will harden. Just scoop it up on your toothbrush and the warmth of your mouth will liquify it.

Hi, Bryanna:

Is there a good way to mix Coconut Oil w/ Baking Soda? After I melted the coconut oil, the baking soda sits at the bottom of the container and I needed to keep mixing it. Thanks!

AkDental,

I don't melt the coconut oil. I scoop the hard coconut oil into a bowl and ad the baking soda and smoosh together until I know it's thoroughly mixed.

I leave the mixture in a glass jar in my vanity draw in the bathroom and scoop out the amount that I want to use and just apply that to my toothbrush.

Hope that helps.

The toothbrush feels very grease after I'm done. Also, the paste feels gritty. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Is it abrasive to the teeth? Should I try to dissolve the baking soda, maybe in hot water first before mixing with coconut oil? Sorry for all the question and thank you for your help.

Baking soda is gritty, like sand.
Coconut oil is .... oil. So the brush will feel a bit oily after you use it.
I rinse my tooth brush well under warm water while rubbing my finger across it several times. I haven't noticed a greasy feel to it.
I also change my toothbrush every 6 weeks.

Hope this helps.
