Hi to everyone.

I dont want a regular extraction of an abcessed lower first molar becuase I suffer from severe facial pain that resulted from another extraction on the opposite side.

Can someone please tell what I can do? three different dentists have told me that I need extraction. The crown post is too big, the tooth may/will crack if a reroot is attempted.

Im very scared, that something similar will happen to my right side.

As you know, it is not wise to leave an infected tooth in your mouth. What have the dentists said about the symptoms you are having since the removal of the molar on the left side of your mouth??

my dentists all advised extraction as soon as possible, but as you know of my pain condition I feel very very reluctant. So I was wondering if there are any alternatives to extraction. The crown can (at a risk of tooth fracture) be re-rooted, but the post is fairly large hence the risk of fracture.

I'm a bit confused by your posts. I thought you had an extraction and that you've had pain ever since? I also thought you had a similar problem on the other side with an abcessed tooth and was avoiding getting it pulled...??

It is never healthy to keep an infected tooth in the mouth. The only sure way to get rid of the infection is to remove the entire tooth. Typically, a molar extraction is done by using a drill to cut off the crown portion of the tooth (that's the part of the tooth above the gumline) and then use the same drill to section the roots of the tooth. Doing it that way helps to prevent the tooth from fracturing as each root is pulled out. Sometimes the tooth is very brittle, especially if it has had a root canal treatment, and this makes the tooth more likely to fracture during the extraction. Either way, there is no healthy alternative to treating an infected tooth but to remove it.

Have you talked with your dentist about the pain you are having on your other side? What did he say?

You're right, the side with facial pain is the left side. I had a crowned tooth that was pulled using surgery. Now I have exactly the same tooth on the other side that is abcessed. It is now also painful.

Regarding face/tongue pain; my dentist/s do not wish to tell me the truth, I feel that I am being waffled. With the facial/tongue main symptoms I have, they could surely give me an indication of what is wrong. I think the reason for not telling is either because a) admission of negligence i.e. they caused my problems or b) they do not wish to unduly stress me further knowing I suffer from bruxism.

My dentist recommended I use hypnotherapy for my teeth grinding. The mouthgaurd is hurting my gums especially around the abcessed tooth.

My problems are compounded. one leading to the other.

It not a good idea to wait on removing this painful tooth on the right side. The infection will eventually spread.... more problems than you have right now.

I can understand your concerns and think you deserve some type of reason why you are in so much pain from the other extraction. Please try and see if you can get some help from a dentsit in the IAOMT organization. They treat people more holistically, meaning they don't dismiss a patients symptoms, like many conventional dentists do. Please don't wait too long.
