Dentures and Burning Mouth Syndrome
I have had a full upper denture for 19 months. The immediate, the denture you get after extractions, did not cause any problems. I wore it for 4 months waiting for the gums to heal and shrink. 12 days after getting the permanent denture I started having Burning mouth symptoms. The thing is I seem to mostly have BMS when I have my denture in. Sometimes it may take going without the denture for a few days for the burning to stop but it does stop until I put the denture back in.
I have thought of and tried everything. Eliminating toothpastes, mouthwash, denture cleansers, adhesives. Stopped taking any medication that may be causing it... you name it.
My question is... does anyone else have Burning Mouth Syndrome associated with their denture?
I have had a upper plate made, without teeth, out of vinyl... I still had the burning. next i am going to try a test plate out of the standard acrylic but with no pink part. I have read that the pigment in the colorant can cause an allergic reaction.
I have found a great prostodonist, although in 40 years of practice he's not had anyone with my problem. I don't have dry mouth and the denture seems to fit fairly well. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Hope
