Post Metal partial denture causing cankers...

I have a new lower partial, and have developed cankers on the tip of my tongue where it hits the metal part. I'm curious to know if this has happened to anyone else, and if it ever got any better. If it becomes a chronic problem I won't be able to wear it, and will have lost a considerable amount of money.
