Default trouble after 1st and 2nd molar removal last week?

Last week I went to the oral surgeon because I was told my wisdom tooth had to come out when I saw the dentist for pain and apparently bad infection back there. The dentist said the impacted wisdom tooth is sideways and butting into the tooth in front of it. The oral surgeon took x-rays and he suggested he remove the two teeth in front of my wisdom in hopes the wisdom tooth wont have to come out. He said it is really impacted in my jaw bone near a nerve and it would be a very difficult and painful extraction especially since I am 35.(apparently its worse the older you get). So last week I had my 2nd molar removed which was infected and my 1st molar removed which had the crown on it with an old decaying root canal under it. I was in a lot of pain. The oral surgeon gave me a lot of novocaine injections to numb me thankfully and extracted the teeth. The second molar came out alright and there was some difficulty with the first molar as it broke and then there was all this digging and trying to get pieces out inside. However he got it all, gave me stitches and said it was going to hurt a lot because of the difficulty of the extraction and told me to come back in a week so he could check it. He said it looks good, but I mentioned how my tongue has been feeling weird, swollen, a burning sensation, and how It feels weird on that side of mouth when I talk or breath in. He looked and said it was not my prescribed mouth wash he gave me doing this but it was a nerve he had to of hit with the injections that affects my tongue and that side of my mouth and is a very rare occurrence. He was sorry, but it will take quite a while to heal? He says he had only had it happen like once every few years. But anyway he said it would be like this for a while and nothing can be done but take B-12. Then thanked me for my business and sent me home. I have never heard of this before. Can anyone explain to me what is wrong with the side of my tongue and right side of my mouth? and when my mouth will be normal? The more I think about it the more freaked out I'm getting. Just how long can this last?
