Hi all,
This is my first post. I would be gretefull if somebody can give an answer. Here is the story. I had a root apicoectomy (the 24 molar) and there was a sinus membrane perforation. I don't know if this is an error or not. After surgery I had no pain at all but my left side nostril felt a little strange. Now after two months I did an X-ray and I found out that one root (of the two) was not operated. The doctor said that is ok but I feel like I have something in my nose. My concern is that the root left untreated (in the same size as before) is keeping the sinusal membrane from closing. I'm not a physician so maybe you will find my conclusion imposible from your point of view. ![]() I had a little cold so maybe this can be the answer. To get a second opinion I have to travel in another town because there is only one doctor here. I can attach some X-rays if somebody can use them to solve the mistery. Thank you all for reading my post. You have a great forum here. |

There is a wonderful gal named Bryanna, who knows alot about dental issues. Please look into the dental thread, and ask her. You can also privately ask her on your own thread. It does sound like you need some advice. I hope you can find her real soon. She has been in the dental office for many years. I hope you find a solution soon. ginnie

Hi Mike,
Yes, please post the xray as it may help figure out what is going on. You mentioned tooth #24 as a molar.... I'm not sure where you live but in the US tooth #24 is a lower front tooth. That's ok, the xray will show me exactly what tooth it is. I'll check back later or tomorrow to see if you have posted the xray. Thanks! Bryanna Quote:

Mike,
I am not able to help you with regard to the sinus issue without the xray. For general information.... Root canals and apicoectomies do not make a sick or painful tooth well again irrelevant of how well they are performed. It doesn't make any difference on the skill of the dentist or how many times the procedure is done ..... there is no cure for a tooth that is infected. If the tooth wasn't infected prior to the root canal or apico, then it became infected after the procedure because the blood supply which provides the tooth with nutrition is completely cut off causing the nerve tissue inside the tiny canals to become necrotic and sick. You stated that your big concern is whether the tooth will become infected.... as I've stated above, all root canaled teeth and those that have had apicos remain infected after the procedure. To answer your question about the longevity of this tooth.... it will be in a guarded to hopeless state. There are many systemic and oral complications that can occur with infected teeth, that is why it is healthiest to have them removed. Hope this info helps you.....
