well, its looks like I need a new dentist. I called this morning to see if the new temps were ready. No they arent despite him promising Tuesday as I have a vital meeting tomorrow. And they have ordered socket fitted again. He told me not to wear the alergic partials cos I am allergic. So the socket 'pockets' have already vanished. He had told me he was ordering a standard denture.
So asked if he could take impressions today for a standard as clearly the stupid socket fitted werent going to fit on thursday (their new ETA). He point blank refused and the receptionist hung up.
So thats half a months wages wasted.
I have no idea what to do. I'm sat here with missing teeth, uninetlligeable speech and important meetings coming up and a dentist who doesnt care.

I don't understand why your dentist is being so difficult with you. He cannot force you to have an open face partial denture. He has to inform you of other options whether he wants to or not. He is also obligated to discuss those options with you indicating the pros and cons of each. Could there be some other reason why he treating you this way??

It sounds like you have two choices.... either attempt to communicate with your dentist again or seek another dentist. You certainly can't walk around with no front teeth.

I wish I could offer some insightful thoughts here, but I'm unsure why this is happening to you.

He just isnt listening to me. I have no idea why. Tomorrow Im taking my husband with me (which is a bit unfeminist) to say I do not want fitted socket dentures, I do not want open front dentures and if he cant supply what I *want* rather than what he wants then I want my money back.

Thank you for the eduation about partials. I have those two upper ones that the space shows, and I want to get one. From what I read the Vitallium nylon partial may be something I can bring up to my new dentist. I also PM you I think yesterday. If you can tell me what # your older post was about the problems with RC teeth, I can try to look it up. There is heavy dialog in my household about RC teeth and disease. I do not think my housemate will listen to me. I need that professional way of describing what the negative parts of RC teeth are for her to be convinced. If you can, print out the information about the partials and take that to your dentist as that may be more helpful in understanding your particular options.

I copied off the stuff about partials to bring with me to the dentist. I also read some of the articles to the right of the pictures. Articles that really did not discourage RC. I think if Nan read those she still would think the proceedure was just fine. ginnie

Most of the information that is written by conventional dentists will advocate root canal therapy and for a very good reason.......it is the most profitable dental procedure performed in the US!! When you think that one single tooth can be root canaled and then re treated 2-3+ times......that's a lot of $$$$ in the dentists pocket! The excuses people are given for the "failed root canal" are.... "it was not done right"... or "it was incomplete".... or "the tooth became reinfected".... or "we have "special" instruments and drills to clean the tooth out better". ALL of these reasons are bull***t... but since people are not given enough information about the procedure to begin with, how are they to know to question those reasons? Frequently the patient is scared or convinced into the first root canal and then the re treatments because they don't want to lose their tooth.... but if they were informed that they were "retaining" a chronically infected tooth that could infect the rest of their mouth and risk their overall health, the idea of keeping it might not seem so appealing.

Ginnie, just on this forum alone....MOST of the questions and MOST of the problems that people are talking about.... are root canal related.

I will post a separate thread about what a root canal procedure is and the reasons it is risky to keep an infected tooth in our mouth. I will locate and post some sites that offer similar information.

Thanks, and I will read all your posts and copy them for my housemate. I will give her this one to start with. Nan really wants to know the truth, but doesn't believe it. Right now I don't want to keep my one RC tooth in. I always wondered why I had sensitivity to it. I was told a bunch of stuff too. Again, looking forward to information to pass on.
