Frown Upper Denture Blues

Hi, everyone I'm new to this and so happy that I found others that I can relate too. I'm a 40 year old female and just had all of my teeth removed I just got my upper denture 2 weeks ago and I've been back to the dentist 5 times already for adjustments. I had a bad gag reflex and they feel so big in my mouth I cant talk I can't eat and I can't stop crying.... They dont look natural to me Im going back today to get them thined out more, I also called my Inc company to see if I had another option and I DON'T, they won't be able to be replaced until 2016. Does anyone have any advice? I could really use it right now....

Sincerely,

Babegirl

Hi, how are things going now? I'm new to this kind of situation, too.

Default Well...

I've had a full upper and bottom partial for about 20 years, I still don't like them but you do adapt.

Did you have an 'immediate'? Did they pull the teeth and put the denture right in or did you have to wait? The immediate ones tend not to fit as well because your tissue will shrink and change. I paid for another one myself after around a year, I doubt you could find anyone to do it before you are fully healed, I'm not sure how long that takes.

They won't feel so huge after you are used to them, try a little adhesive if they feel loose.

I'm sorry I don't have some happier thoughts to report, some people really do like them. I don't think mine look very good either but I've seen pictures of myself and they actually look fine. It will get better.

Whatever you do heed the dentist advice to have regular checkups and not let them become poorly fitting. It will deform your jaw and it will be very hard to get a good fit afterwards.

Good luck
Judi
