Hi Bryanna, I have a quick question, is it routine for a dentist to use bleach in a person's mouth when performing a root canal? DH had one Monday, and during the root canal he smelled bleach. There was a bleach stain on his bib and there was a little cup which he bent over to sniff and it smelled like bleach. Is that part of the procedure? Thanks for your time.

Hi Pamster.
Yes, bleach is frequently used as a "disinfectant" during the root canal procedure. It is not considered a "safe" product to use in the mouth.... but when used in a controlled manner, the exposure to the oral tissue is minimal if at all. It does leave a lingering residue inside of the tooth which means he may have a taste of bleach every now and again. Bryanna Quote:
