I just got my permanent crown put in. It feels very strange and it wiggles a bit (if I move it with my fingers). Is the wiggling going to be a problem? I'm afraid of bacteria getting in underneath and rotting the remainder of the real tooth.
I know I should probably stop messing with it, but sometimes I bite down and it feels a bit high, but when I push up on it and bite down again then it's fine. |

Hi LeahG,
Did the dentist use permanent or temporary cement with this crown? Sometimes a dentist will put temporary cement in for a week or two if there is any doubt about the fit of the crown or the health of the tooth. Sometimes the temporary cement does not hold very well. Otherwise, if the tooth is healthy and the fit is good, then permanent cement would be used in which case the crown should be tight, not loose. The fact that the crown feels high when you bite indicates that it needs to be adjusted. It is important to see your dentist asap for two reasons.... one, if the bite is not correct you could end up with a toothache and/or injure the nerve in the tooth, secondly, if the crown is loose, you could swallow it. So yea, go back and see your dentist asap. Bryanna Quote:

Hi Bryanna,
Speaking of loose crowns and permanent/temp filling, Im 12 wks preg and yesterday my crown was fitted, with temp filling behind it (its a front tooth, bottom). Today I noticed it was a bit loose, after the gum tenderness had subsided. Dentist says he will only put in permanent fillng/cement once he can take an xray to see it's perfectly in etc. which is in 6 mths time. Should I go back to him anyway? What would he do that'd be any better than this? He's anti xraying preg women, even with a cover on, but my old dentist xrayed me covering my tummy a few yrs back when I was late in my preg. Suggestions? thanks! Quote:
