Default Tooth lodged in sinus cavity following dental surgery .

My husband had dental surgery to remove an upper tooth and not long after that he started having pain from this . He got an x-ray which showed the piece of tooth in the sinus cavity , we then contacted the surgeon and told him ,he said it would be fine . My husband has sinus problems constanly now and he recently started having a small amount of bleeding in his ear . Could this be from the piece of tooth left in his sinus cavity ?

Hi Dsexton,

It is rarely considered okay for a root tip to be left in the sinus as they usually cause problems. His sinus and ear symptoms need to be evaluated as they very well may be attributed to the root tip in the sinus. It is important to know that the brain is within 4 inches of the sinus... so infection from the sinus can spread to the brain.

Since the original surgeon is not concerned, I would consult with a different oral surgeon and perhaps even an ear nose and throat specialist.

This situation will only progress, it should be evaluated as soon as he can.

Please let us know how's he's doing!

Bryanna
