Default Can an abscess infect other teeth?

I have another question. I had my two front teeth pulled because they were cracked abscessed. Ultimately, I had to have root canals on the teeth on both sides because they were infected (before i learned that root canals suck and are bad). Due to financial reasons I had waited to have the infected teeth pulled for almost a year. I'm curious if the infection could have spread or not to the infected teeth. The endodontist said it was extremely infected and inflamed. This is just for my general knowledge and curiosity.

Socasusie,

The answer is definitely yes. Infections in teeth can and will spread to other teeth, the sinuses, other areas of the mouth as well as other areas of the body known as systemic infection.

When we think of an infected tooth we think of an abscess. However, tooth decay is also infection and if left untreated the "bacteria" that causes the decay will spread to the nerves in that tooth as well as to other teeth. Teeth that are root canaled are also infected just like decayed teeth. Both conditions have infectious bacteria living inside of the tooth.

Tooth decay can be brought under control without injury to the nerves if it is removed and a properly filled before it gets too deep.
