Ok, so not a big fan of dentists at ALL. Just not comfortable there, teeth are not in great shape and its just a bad mix of different factors. So last time I went to dentist was about 18-20 months ago when tooth #2 was badly infected and needed to come out. They put me on antibiotics to quell the infection a bit before pulling it. I was also on Coumadin at the time and not a lot of oral surgeons felt comfortable doing oral surgery while I was on blood thinners. The blood thinners were needed due to me randomly getting 6 blood clots 6 months earlier during a shoulder rotator and labrum surgical procedure. Purely random bad luck, but it was Pulmonary Embolism and I survived so to me it was a hint of good luck as well.

Back to my dental issue. So I finally found a good oral surgeon and once the infection subsided he popped this back upper right tooth right out. No problems and also had no problems or complications with my blood thinners. I did have to have a root canal soon thereafter on tooth # 1 (maybe)...it was a very infected tooth and I had a pretty rough go round after.....finally calmed down eventually. No issues now.

Fast forwarded to today. Have a couple,teeth bothering me...no swelling or craziness. Just a tooth - #14 that aches from time to time and and is very, very sensitive to cold air or water. It has an old stainless crown on it from abut 10 years ago. Tooth behind it - tooth # 15 has a huge crack and needs a crown. tooth in front of the bad one is tooth 13 and has a cavity and needs to have that addressed. My gums are not in great shape so even with the immediate work needed on teeth 13,14 & 15 - the dentist said the scaling and root planning was very important and needed to be done first. No issues there. He said said that tooth #14 will need to come out and possibly be a difficult extraction with possible Bone graft, and also a crown on tooth # number 15. I also have a cavity on tooth 13 that need to be addressed as well. This was my first time ever seen this dentist. He is not necessarily an oral surgeon. This guy did a root canal on my wife last month and it went great. But I wonder if I'd feel more comfortable going to an oral surgeon for the extraction and just letting this new regular dentist handle the crown, cavity and root planning.

Questions:

1. Is it crazy to get the surgical extraction, crown, cavity filled (work done on 3 teeth essentially) plus having the scaling and root planning done for entire mouth....ALL in one appt???
I was thinking I could just knock it all out in one setting if its not too bad. Thoughts?

2. Do I really need the bone graft? I keep reading awful things about bone grafts, fevers, sinus infections, headaches, etc, I had a bad tooth infected upper right...tooth #2 maybe....this oral surgeon numbed me up and popped it out. Took 10 min! This dentist I saw is talking about bone graft, sutures, etc.


Do I really and truly need a bone graft?? Can't he just pop or pull it out? Would,it be crazy to go back to the oral surgeon I used before and then have this new dentist for the crown, gum work, etc?

this sound like nightmare i would get expert opinion if i were you a bone graft for a bad tooth sound a lot extream to me n iv had a lot of canal work sucsesfuly done with out there being any problams
