I posted in the wrong topic and deleted it and posted it here. I assume that is what you were referring to. It has been a long day. I was up at 5 am with very little sleep and off at 6 am for the long drive. 7 to 10 days? on not eating solid foods? Wow, I do not need to loose any more weight but I guess I can add something to my diet to make sure I am getting enough calories. I wonder why he told me I could eat most anything? I kind of knew better than that. They took my money and sent me out the door. You think by me not having insurance is why I was treated like this? I am lost on why a doctor would not tell me how to take care of this? Anyway I am smart enough to figure things out. One more thing, what do I need to put in the place of where that tooth was? Nobody has even mentioned that to me and how long before I need to make that move. Thanks again for you time and help. Tom

Tom,
A soft food diet can be filling and satisfying. You could add some protein powder to homemade fruit or vegetable smoothies for the extra protein, fiber and calories. Here's a little help.... http://suite101.com/article/how-to-e...s-diet-a151090 The surgeon told you to eat anything because he might have assumed that you would do that anyway..... most people are not all that compliant when it comes to altering their diet for several days. But he should have properly informed you anyway. Replacement of this tooth will need to be discussed with your general dentist as it all depends on the restorations and health of the the adjacent teeth. If you are missing other teeth in your upper arch, you may be a candidate for a removable partial denture. You had initially said you didn't care if you had a space there ....... but of course it would be ideal to be able to replace it! Your replacement options depend on what else is going on in the upper arch. You can consult with your general dentist anytime about this. Hope you're feeling well.... and feel even better tomorrow! I don't have any more missing teeth on the top row and like I said it does not matter to me if this one is replaced or not.
I am not sure if I mentioned it or not but there was a large cavity under the crown he removed today. I did not know that and from what I have read X-rays will not detect those. I am learning something everyday. I just wish I would have never had all these 9 teeth crowned since late 2005. It looks like my dentist was getting all the insurance money she could before I retired and not really helping me. I just thought I was doing the right thing. Now I could have a cavity and not know it. No dentist ever told me that one. Same with root canals. I also never knew you could get an infection once a tooth had a root canal done in it. The oral surgeon did tell me today about those tiny canals under the tooth that have infection and the only way to get rid of the infection is remove the tooth. That's how much I knew. :D I know you mentioned that here. What does your dentist think of a Waterpik ? I have been using one but not sure if its the correct thing to do? I do floss good everyday but some days I also use the Waterpik. This site is a good learning site and we all really appreciate your expert help here. I know I do anyway. I hope tomorrow is better than today and I am quite sure it will be with this infected tooth gone. Now I got to find some good snack food to eat when I play golf:D tomorrow. Tom |
Hi Tom,
Well, you have time to think about what you want to do to replace that tooth. You may even consider removing those other root canaled teeth which would give a whole different perspective to replacing #6. It is common to have decay underneath the crowns that cover root canaled teeth. Usually what occurs is either the seal of cement has broken and bacteria continually leaches in causing decay (this can also occur on non root canaled teeth that are crowned).... but usually as the bacteria from inside of those tiny canals breaks through the tooth it results in decay. Tooth decay is infection. It is a bacteria that has rotted out a portion of the tooth. Gross, I know :/ Crowns that are made of porcelain fused to metal are not radiolucent, meaning they cannot be seen through on a x-ray. Crowns that are just porcelain can be seen through to a certain degree. The cement that is used to adhere crowns generally lasts for about 7-10 years. Once the seal is broken, bacteria can get underneath and cause havoc. Sometimes a crown will loosen when the cement seal breaks other times it stays tight. Crowns can look esthetically pleasing for a lot longer than they stay cemented.... unfortunately. Tom THANK YOU for mentioning this in your post... <<The oral surgeon did tell me today about those tiny canals (inside) under the tooth that have infection and the only way to get rid of the infection is remove the tooth.>> Sometimes I think people read my replies and after they pick themselves up from fainting.... they think I'm making this stuff up! So it is always a good thing when a member here states the truth as it's been told by their dentist. It does not happen often but I appreciate when someone shares it. So thank you ;) BTW..... how did your golf game go today?? What snacks did you munch on? Or don't I want to know ;? Bryanna Quote:

The golf game went fine today Bryanna. On hole number 14 I noticed I was getting light headed again. I did manage to shoot 82 which is ok for me. I thought at first I may need something to eat but that was not he problem. I was not dizzy, just real light headed especially when I would bend over and get my golf ball out of the cup. Almost like I would faint. I did manage to complete the round without problems though.
When I got home I checked my blood pressure and it was 80 over 55 which is way to low. I rechecked again and same thing, way to low. I may need to adjust those meds so maybe tomorrow I will call the doc or maybe just cut the Lisinopril in half and leave off the other. I have already quit one of those three meds. Since I got this infected tooth out my blood pressure may return to near normal without meds or at least cut the dosage to half. That is scary about the other crowns I have to know they may be infected under them. I plan on seeing my dentist in July so I will ask just how many root canals I do have. I do not have a clue but an E-ray would show that. The place where the tooth was removed is healing great. I may start eating normal again by the weekend but continue to chew on the other side. I need some good food again like junk burgers:D LOL |
Tom,
Please call the doctor tomorrow about the BP. It's not safe to just alter the meds your self as your dr may want to change them to something else or remove one or the other. Glad your golf game went okay! We wouldn't want anything to interfere with that .... :)) Yes, dental xrays will determine what teeth are root canaled. So it's a good idea to have them done when you see your dentist in July. Have a good rest of the week! Bryanna Quote:

I never called the doctor today. They are only going to do what I am doing anyway, that's how they treated my B/S before, trial and error. I just took the one 10 Mg Lisinopril .
It was still low this morning but nothing like yesterday. I may just cut it in half like I was doing before it spiked up last summer. I was only on 10 mg then. I have been tired all day today and spent the biggest part of it sleeping. Not sure why, maybe I did not sleep good last night or maybe the several days of golf finally got me.. I played starting last Wednesday and went 6 days in a row and then again yesterday:cool::cool: . I just tested my B/P and it was 120/75 which I would think is next to perfect. I may just stay at the 20 mg. The area where they pulled the tooth is healing up good but the gum is still sore where the gum boil was. It looks much better also but some of it is still there. I need to quit using my tongue to fell it:D I know I read where they tell you to not rub or touch the extraction area with your tongue or finger. As this might cause bleeding or infection, prolonging the healing time. I hate taking all these antibiotics. I think they are making me feel bad. I never seem where you said it was OK to use a water Pike ? or how dentists feel about using one?? I have not used it since the tooth infection but would like to continue later if it is not harming my gums? One more question and if I can. When do you think it will be OK to drink coffee? I have not had a cup since Monday and would very much like some to jump start my day. You think it will be OK since the place is almost healed up?? I will keep you updated on how I am coming along. Hope you have a good weekend. Thanks again. Tom |
Tom,
I still think you should inform your doctor of your BP readings and light- headedness so he can guide you.... but that's as far as I'm going to push ;) Perhaps you should not do anything strenuous, like play golf, for a couple of days. After all, you just had oral surgery and your body is dealing with that and the infection. So just take it easy for a couple..... ok? Regarding the antibiotics..... if you are having digestive upset, you can supplement with a probiotic. This is an over the counter supplement that helps to restore the good bacteria in your gut that the antibiotic kills off. Just take it one hour before the antibiotic or two hours later.... twice a day. The fistula that had formed above the tooth will take time to heal. Continue to rinse with warm salt water 3-4 times a day until that is gone. With regard to using the water pik..... go ahead and use it! Just keep it on a gentle to medium setting..... never hard. Coffee.... go ahead have cup or two! It is never a good idea to stop coffee cold turkey if you are use to having it every day as it could drop your BP (!) and/or make you feel a bit.... cranky and tired :/ You have a good weekend also!! Bryanna, I feel better today than I have in years. I have lots more energy . My B/S was 110/70 this morning and 90/69 just a few minutes ago . I took only the half of lisinopril. You think this infected tooth has been making me feel bad all this time? Its that the case it would be a miracle. I don't want to speak to fast but for now I feel great. I had one cup of coffee this morning. Today I am taking it easy as it is raining and cooler. I will update you again later. Tom

Tom,
The infected tooth very well could have been a contributing factor to your not feeling well. My observation over a period of 35 yrs with dental patients who have their infected teeth removed is without question that their health in general improves. The same holds true for those patients who have their mercury fillings removed when their dentist follows the proper removal protocol. I have a ton of stories relating to this topic and so do others in the profession of Biological Dentistry. Glad you are feeling so good! Have a wonderful weekend ;) Bryanna Quote:
