Help dentists, please help me. Please. :(

Hi. Im 18 years old and i had my 2nd to the last upper right molar root canaled a few months ago because the tooth had already been um, eaten? i think, by the decay or whatnot... and now, the rootcanal is still unfinished :( the last time i went to my dentist to have my teeth cleaned and have my root canal filled with pasta, after having my tooth filled with pasta, my dentist says that the procedure would be unsuccessful which is why she recommended it being pulled out instead of being saved. :( is that okay? i dont want to have it pulled out but she wants me to have it pulled out. she said that the next time i come back, she'll pull it out already. which is its been a month and i havent gone back to the dentist and a few days after, my tooth started throbbing, but when it wasnt filled with pasta, i never had any complaints with pain at all. And a few days after she fills it up with pasta, i then accidentally remove the pasta through chewing a gum. and then right now, there's this bump near my molar that is very sensitive and very painful whenever it gets touched by my toothbrush or even finger. As it gets touched i feel my tooth throbbing in pain. Now not only my gums hurt, but my cheeks got swollen too. Please help me. I need help. I do not know what to do because im so scared :( Btw, my dentist is not an endodontist. I had no idea that i shouldve went there. Please help me. Im so sorry im just so scared and in unbearable pain. this is unbelievable.

Hi nelbase,

I am not a dentist but I am in the dental field for over 30 yrs. I can offer you some insight as to what is going on with your tooth.

The tooth became infected from the decay which was obviousy very deep in the tooth. Irrelevant of whether or not you had pain before she filled the tooth, it is important for you to know that the root canal procedure did not cure the infection. If your dentist did not inform you she should have about the root canal not curing the problem and offered you the option of removing this tooth at that time.

The tender bump that has developed near this tooth is the infection that is spreading from the tooth into the bone. Antibiotics cannot cure this infection they can only help subside some of the symptoms temporarily.

I know you are scared and you do not want to extract this tooth but you need to understand that you have a serious infection and the infection will continue to grow and spread as long as you have that tooth. The only way to cure the infection and get out of pain is to have this tooth extracted.

I would suggest that you see an oral surgeon for the removal of this tooth. Not a general dentist, not an endodontist, not a periodontist.... an oral surgeon. When the tooth is removed the area surrounding it needs to be cleaned up of the infection and that is what oral surgeons are trained to do.

You will feel a lot better once this tooth is out and the infection calms down. I urge you not to wait to make an appointment with the oral surgeon.

Please check back with us... okay
