Question TMD/TMJ questions

I am posting this for my sister. She has pain behind the ear, in the jaw, and the side of the nose. She also has headaches and jaw clicking. Her eyeglasses make her nose and ear pain worse. She keeps getting her eyeglasses adjusted. But, she still has the pain.

Is the nose pain and headaches a symptom of TMJ? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi Qjayde,

TMJ pain can occur from the top of the head to the upper portion of the back and everywhere in between. Clicking of the jaw and headaches are also associated with TMJ.

Her best bet is to be evaluated by the dentist for specific TMJ muscular triggers. She will be asked if she clenches and/or grinds her teeth, if she has had any head injury or trauma, if she's had any abscesses or difficulty with tooth extractions or if she's ever had orthodontia?

If someone is a habitual clencher or grinder, it is usually evident on the biting surfaces of their teeth as these edges get worn down from the habit. So a dentist would also be looking for that. Also taking a full mouth series of xrays will show if there is any obvious infection associated with her teeth or jaw bone.

I hope this is helpful. Please let us know what the dentist has to say!

Bryanna
