Default Pain in ear and jaw after first lower molar extraction

I have RSD to begin with. 2 weeks ago, I had tooth#19 the first lower molar removed.
The oral surgeon chose to use Marcaine after consulting with another specialist.

While doing the injections, the one to the ear/jaw really hurt, so I breathed my way through it, knowing there was a needle in my mouth..

Now, 2weeks later, my jaw and ear is in bad pain.
I have tried a Clonidine patch, but seem to be allergic to it ( and it didn't seem to help).
I have also been trying some homeopathic remedies for nerve injuries.
No relief yet.

Any ideas ?

I realize I 'should' have had blocks, but too late now..

Thank you, Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Has the pain in the ear and jaw worsened over the last two weeks or is it basically the same?

Do you have any TMJ problems? You may or may not have mentioned this in a previous post... hard for me to remember everything that everyone writes.

It is quite common for people to complain about ear and jaw pain for a week or several weeks post op lower injections and/or extractions and usually it is TMJ or muscular related. As the injection is being given, the patient tenses up and the masseter muscle spasms. Sometimes this is felt immediately or not until the spasm tries to release... which can occur at any time, even weeks later.

Here is a site that explains the masseter muscle in laymans terms.
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-masseter-muscle.htm

One way to help relax this muscle is to apply warm, moist compresses to the side of the face, along the jaw line and over the TMJ joint where the ear and the top of joint can be felt.

Homeopathically... what have you tried?
Here is a site with excellent recommendations...

What are your thoughts about this information?

Default Pain in jaw and ear

I have tried Belladonna, Hypericam, Arnica, hep Sulf, hecla lava,

Yes, the pain has gotten worse after the extraction 2weeks ago.
The injection hurt going by the ear.

I have a cranial sacral apt next week. I hope that is all it is..

The lidocaine sinus blocks are not touching it..

Thank you for your input. Nancy
