Hi socasusie,

Glad to hear the surgery is over
So you had an immediate implant placed in site #30 then? Yea, that is a lot to go through in one visit.

In some people their teeth can be very attached to their bone... it is sometimes referred to as ankylosed and it can make removal of a tooth a bit difficult. But the surgeon eventually gets it all out

What you describe as him "using instruments and using a lot of fluid after the extraction" is the debridement and the irrigation with saline. So that is good

I hope you continue to feel comfortable and your healing goes perfectly!!

Keep us posted ......
Bryanna

He had to stop like 5 times to give me more shots, but he did get me numb and try to keep me numb. He said the nerve (spot?) they have to hit is very, very, deep/far back in my jaw, and that even with the long needle it's hard to get to. I did forget to ask for the debridement, but at one point between the extraction and implant he was using some instruments and a lot of fluid in a syringe. I asked why he said he had to clean very, very well because the root canal and that if any bacteria was left it would cause problems long term.

With narcotic pain meds and alternating Advil its fine though. Waiting for the prednisone to kick in as well (my rheumatologist and him coordinated and felt it would be helpful considering the lupus piece, and I'm grateful they worked to figure out what would help me most).

I'm on straight liquid diet until tomorrow. Lots of lukewarm soup for me!

Thank you again for all the advice, happy it's done until around January when I'll do the same thing on the other side-I have a cracked molar there too, and am already missing the second molar.

Me too! Actually, 30 was extracted with an implant placed, and then a second implant placed in 31-it was extracted 6 years ago. Since I was already going through it, I decided that I should get it done at once.

Glad that step was debridement, because it also makes me more comfortable that he's thorough. I don't know if that's what happened with my tooth, I just know that tooth was super committed to staying in my mouth. Lol.

I will keep you posted, but I'm down for the rest of the weekend and took Monday/Tuesday off just in case.

Thank you again for all your help!

Default Did this help lupus?

Did your extraction have a positive effect on your lupus? I am wondering bc tested positive for lupus and am wondering if an infected tooth may have contributed. I had my tooth extracted this week. For many reasons, but I am hoping it will help minimize symptoms.
Thanks!
