During the last 3 years I have been in the process of replacing my entire upper jaw with dental implants. All have had root canals over the years as I am 50 yrs old now. This was to be done in 3 sections. I started with the upper front 6 teeth and had no problems. Then I had the upper right done where the oral surgeon took out the teeth and put in the bone graphing while doing a sinus lift. All went well as did the implants months later.
Back in November I had the final left quadrant done. Just a few days past surgery I developed a severe infection where he had to remove the graphing and clean the area. I waited 8 months to do again. June 24th I had the sinus lift and bone graphing done again. It took 2 weeks to form another infection. This time there is no throbbing pain but nasty odors and puss coming out the nose. I stayed on Keflex which he started me on 2 days prior to surgery. After a week and still puss he switched me to Amoxicillin and Clavulanate 1000mg/62.5 He thinks that I will probably have to remove everything again. Any idea why an infection could happen twice when I had done these procedures before with no problems? I am nervous about a 3rd try at it. Thanks, Sandy |

Hi Sandy,
I want to commend you on getting those rc teeth removed!! It is always risky to place dental implants in areas of the jaw that once had root canaled teeth due to the extent of the infection from those teeth. So either you were really fortunate to have no problems on the front and right side or..... the left side has residual infection in the bone that either was not removed at the time of the extractions or it is so deep that it cannot be seen. You could also have a sinus infection that has not been diagnosed that is infecting the graft material. Did the oral surgeon do a cone beam scan on you prior to placing the implants? Bryanna Quote:
