Default first premolar decay.

Hi, I've seen so many dental problems and great solutions here and hope I will be getting a good response for my problem. I should say that I was a bit childish in the case of dental care; afraid of dentist. Few month back I had a sensitive issues and later some pain began, on my top right side (premolar area, i guess). I ignored it and went on with my daily work. Couple of months back the pain was severe and I preferred pain killers, until one day I had a really bad pain and a swelling on my right side. I went to dentist and he checked on it and took the xray image or something, and told me that the decay is bad and is started affecting the second premolar and also is deep enough and the bone has started to decay. He told me to pull out the teeth and give some medicine and clean up the other premolar. And in the place of the vacant one he will put a crown/ twin-cap or something. I was not sure about that and thought of second opinion, and I went to Dr. David Silberman, DDs, Richmond. Then I was told that the decay is not that severe and can be stopped by cleaning it up and doing root canal. He told it has to be done in couple of steps cos it is has to be done with extreme care. I would like an opinion on these two procedures.
