Default Tooth pain and swollen jaw

I started having tooth pain in my upper tooth that has a hole in it and then my bottom right tooth starting hurting that has a big filling in it. I rubbed on my jaw last night and now it's swollen and hurts. I noticed the tooh is loose to. I started some cipro antibiotics and ibu. Does that mean the tooth is abcessesed or what. I'm a little worried about it i can't make the dentist till monday or tuesday.

Please do not take the cipro!! Google: ciproispoison, or fluoroquinolone toxicity. See if the dentist can prescribe something else. Bryanna should get back to you soon regarding question.

I have a oral surgeon prescribe me, cipro, keflex and clindamicin. That clydamicin made me very sick to where i couldn't take it. Should i take ammoxicillin? They also prescribed that a while back and i got a left over refill.

yes, amox if fine, but the cipro can leave permanent issues...its called fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome.

Hi JaySmitty,

The hole in your tooth is decay. Plaque causes tooth decay as it is a very sticky bacteria that eats through the various layers of the tooth if it is not removed every day. Another word for decay is infection. So yes, the tooth with the hole in it is infected. This infection cannot be cured with any type of antibiotic.

If the decay has reached the pulp of the tooth, then the only "cure" to this infection is to remove the tooth. Many dentists would suggest a root canal procedure however you should know that the rc procedure is done in an attempt to "retain" an unhealthy tooth, not "cure" the problem. Which means you would still be dealing with an infected tooth. If the decay has not reached the pulp and the tooth can be restored with a filling or a crown, then that is what you would need to do asap prevent the spread of the infection.

Regarding the lower tooth with the big filling in it.... if that tooth is loose and there is pain and swelling there is an infection brewing. An xray would be needed to see if the infection is periodontal and/or tooth related. If the tooth is healthy and the infection is periodontal related, then treatment needs to be done to rid the bacterial infection. If the tooth is infected then the same holds true about this tooth as the upper tooth. Infected teeth cannot be made healthy again.

I would suggest that you do not take any leftover antibiotics... go see your dentist for an evaluation.

Bryanna

Thanks Bryanna i went to the er on saturday and they said it was swollen and wanted to do a clydamicin drip, i told them i wanted to try to finish taking the ammoxicilling first. I took the antibiotics since then this morning i woke up with it less swollen but after i hate it started hurting again. I thought the pain was gone. I went to the dentist and they did an xray and said it was abcessed and needed root canal. The dentist assumed i wanted to save the tooth since it's number 30 and one of my chewing teeth. Im still in a lot of pain i can't hardly eat my right side of my face hurts and i got a headache. I felt better this morning but my tooth does like like when i eat or chew. I can't get into a root canal till April 8th i think that's rediculous. I just want the pain to be gone.
