Default Opinions on problematic tooth? - Bryanna

Hi everyone!

New forum, just joined as to try to get some knowledgeable opinions on what to do with my tooth.

Had the same problem with it for about 3 years now and have read so much on the internet that I don't know what to do for the best. After reading through this forum Id really liked to hear what Bryanna has to say on the subject- so any reply would be much appreciated.

The tooth I'm talking about is my upper left first molar which I had filled with an amalgam filling about 15 years ago. I developed some digestive problems a few years later and constant mucus in the back of my throat. These are problems I still live with ( although have had slight improvement).

4 years ago after learning about the dangers of Mercury I got the Amalgam filling replaced with a composite one. My tooth was a bit sensitive at the time but then settled down.

Then about 6-12 months later I had a lot of health problems: more digestive issues, no energy, pale skin, dry hair, complete inability to handle exercise or stress, depression, anxiety, ocd and a lot more. My digestion was really bad at this point ( could hardly do a bm!) and has approved a lot since along with my symptoms but I'm still not right.

At a similar time of all of this the tooth started playing up, I noticed a tingling sensation in it along with a oozing bitter kind of taste that come and go but nearly always get worse when my symptoms are playing up. When the tooth is really tingling it also seems to make my eyelid twitch. Another major symptom I get is awful head pressure which makes me feel like im losing my mind and the tooth sensation is at it's worst when iv got that. Also, if I take any vitamin c the sensation in the tooth gets really strong. Also get ALOT of headaches which get worse after exercise.

The tooth itself is not sensitive or painful but I do occasionally get a very dull shooting pain that feels deep in/above the tooth. The tooth has been like this for about 3 years now and not getting worse. iv been to quite a few dentists who all find it a bit strange and say that if it was infected I would have some pain/sensitivities on it. The x ray showed no infection but like I said I can feel something's not right. Another dentist suggested a root canal and another one put things like tooth pics in to the base of the tooth to test toxicity. This showed high toxicity but he still wasn't sure about it.

I guess I'm just after some opinions on what people think and whether or not this tooth could be making me sick and causing all these health issues. I find it hard to think it's all caused by the the tooth as my digestion (bm's) were screwed at the time but I feel that there's still something there draining my immune system as I still can't handle heavy exercise I used to workout with heavy weights a lot and loved it, but if I try it now I'm completely wiped out!

I know I wouldn't truly know until I get it removed but feel so reluctant to get it out as iv already had 8 teeth extracted when I was younger ( 4 wisdom and 4 other for braces) and scared of getting out and feeling no improvement on my health.
Thanks for reading

Hi Mattyboy,

Any chance you could post an xray of that tooth?

Without an x-ray, I can only base my thoughts on your description. I am going to guess that the root of this first molar may be in close proximity to your sinus and there may be a bacterial infection going on. That would account for the "bitter taste" and could be contributing to your digestive issues as you could be swallowing bacteria from your nasal passage down your throat. Sometimes the sinus blocks the visible root area on an x-ray making it difficult to see the infection. It just depends on where the sinus is in relation to this tooth and the angle that the xray is taken.

A note about tooth symptoms.... pain is not always an indicator of infection especially if the infection is draining because the drain prevents the inflammation from closing off that area. When the drain does close that is usually when the pain shows up.

I have a question for you....
When the amalgam filling was removed... did the dentist utilize any specific precautions to reduce your exposure to the mercury during the removal? These precautions include.... the use of a rubber dam shield that isolates the tooth being worked on and covers the rest of the mouth.... a high speed suction tip was held close to the tooth.... you had a saliva ejector in your mouth..... a mobile vacuum on a long round hose was placed snugly near your face where they were working.... you were given oxygen via a nasal canula during the entire removal.... you wore safety glasses the whole time.... and your mouth was rinsed out for you with copious amounts of water to remove any residual amalgam pieces. Were these protocols done?

Do you have other amalgam fillings in your mouth?

Hi Bryanna

Thank you so much for replying to me, I really appreciate it.

I got the the Dentist to send me the x ray so I will post it when I figure out how to, a bit rubbish with this kind of thing.

Looking at the picture myself it all looks normal so it's a mystery why I'm having these symptoms that come and go from it??!

As I'm writing this I feel fantastic and have no problem from the tooth what so ever but like a flick of a switch it can all change. I have a sensation as if something has suddenly stopped working and have so many symtoms suddenly appear at once- very dry and pale skin, dry hair and hairloss, itchy face and scalp, eyebrows go lighter, feel ill, no energy, feel anxious, awful head pressure, crawling sensation on my face, mucus in throat, the list goes on and on. And as soon as all this starts I have the feelings in this tooth.

It really is incredible how different I feel from my good to my bad and it's so frustrating! I had problems before the amalgam was done but it's much worse now.
For me there is definitely something going on in this tooth but find it hard to believe it's causing a lot of these symtoms.?? I'm getting desperate to work it out. I think a lot my problems are similar to someone suffering from Gilbert syndrome but my liver function test came back normal.

I have wondered about mercury poisoning. ( as well as other things like Lyme disease) The Dentist that removed (my only ever) amalgam filling used some of the precautions but not all. He definitely used the rubber dam and definately didn't use the oxygen through the nose. Not 100% sure about the rest.
Thank you once again Bryanna.
