Exclamation Tooth extracted 6 days ago, extremely sore?

Background Information: Thursday July 17th at about 11:30/Noon, I had some fillings and what I believe is my first premolar extracted.(Upper left side of my mouth) The tooth was completely broken off/rotted, so they had to use this tool to wiggle it out before they could pull it. They put this gelfoam in it, it helps clotting I think. Well, for some reason my mouth had a horrible odor. I DO NOT think my tooth is infected because when the gelfoam fell out, it had a horrible stench to it and made my hands stink. I realize its disgusting but I`m trying to give all the details I can. My gums are extremely sore, even my gums on my lower left side of my mouth which had nothing done. I do warm salt water rinses, mouth wash rinses, and brush my teeth. I have been taking ibuprofen and orajel on my gums.
Questions: 1) Why are my gums sore? Could it be because that tooth was so bad? Also, why are my gums on my lower left side sore? What do you recommend?
2) Tomorrow I go to get a new partial. My current partial is for my four front teeth, the new one will be for my four front teeth and the tooth that was recently extracted. Can they make a mold/impression even though I had the tooth extracted? Will I be able to wear it? School starts August 5th so it`s URGENT.
