Default Getting an Extraction - worried, Help!

About a 8 years ago I had a root canal on my upper left molar (next to last). Well, it got infected inside the crown about a year ago, I guess. The crown fell off a couple weeks ago and it turns out the tooth can't be saved because of decay. Which brings me to my concern: I have opted to get an upper stayplate instead of the bridge or implant because I just can't afford $5000. The stay plate is going to cost me $520 but they want to also charge me $850 for a bone graft. Do I need to have a bone graft for and extraction if they are not doing an implant. I want to do what is necessary and best for my dental health but I can't help feeling like they are trying to get as much money out of me as possible. Help.
